2021 Weekly Legislative Update
Joint Budget Hearing Week

During the recess last week, the House and Senate Appropriations Committees held joint hearings.  They heard from statewide officers, the Supreme Court, and state agencies on their proposed budgets.  The meetings started on Tuesday, January 19, with Governor Brian Kemp and concluded on Thursday, January 21.  The Governor plans to give $1,000 in raises to teachers. He doesn’t plan to make any agency cuts and no new taxes.  A link to the proposed Amended FY20 and FY21 budgets can be found here

The House and Senate will reconvene on Tuesday, January 26 at 10 am for legislative day five.  We are uncertain about how the 2021 Session schedule will ultimately take shape; there is a discussion of the possibility of some breaks in the schedule due to the continued COVID-19 pandemic.

Georgia Link is considering the renewal of offerings of virtual meetings like they did last year, with selected legislative leaders, Commissioners, business leaders, etc. 2020 was an election year and heavily focused on candidates for office and COVID-19 protocol and recovery.  This year they will be looking to provide more issue-oriented informational meetings.  If you have thoughts regarding this possibility, including specific issues of interest, please let us know.
