A Note from the Admin Office

The Library Board of Trustees interviewed two finalist candidates for the Library Director Position on March 20 and had a productive discussion. While no selection was made, the Board discussed inviting both candidates for a tour of the Library and a chance to meet our staff.

The Town has also posted and is receiving applications for the full-time Department Administrative Assistant Position in the Office of the Library Director. We look forward to starting the interview process for this position, and bringing another dedicated member of staff on board!

Holiday & Operating Hours

Monday, April 15: Closed for Patriot's Day

The Grafton Board of Library Trustees voted in favor of a two month extension of the reduced "Winter Hours" through the end of April:

Monday - Thursday: 10 AM - 8 PM

Friday & Saturday: 10 AM - 3 PM

Building Update

The Children’s Room Carpet is on order from the manufacturer. There is no firm timeline for delivery, but we expect to receive the material in the next several weeks. Shelving in the Children’s Program Room and Offices is being re-installed, so that the main Children’s area can be cleared. This will ensure an efficient turnaround for installation when the carpet does arrive. New cabinets and sinks have been installed in the Children’s Program Area.

The Town met with the architect and selected vendor for the Cupola Restoration project, to discuss the project timeline and first steps. Scaffolding, and protection for the slate roof are expected to be installed in the first week of April (weather dependent).

Fiction Spotlight

The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane

By Lisa See

Li-Yan and her family, devote their lives to farming tea. Like her mother, Li-Yan is being groomed to become a midwife in her Chinese village. She yearns for more and is allowed to pursue her schooling. The arrival of outsiders seeking the Pu'er tea of Yunnan brings the modern world into this isolated village. When Li-Yan finds herself alone and pregnant, she leaves her child, wrapped with a tea cake, at an orphanage. Her daughter is adopted by a couple from California, but she is drawn to the study of tea. A sweeping historical novel that juxtaposes ancient China with its modern incarnation. -- Catherine Coyne, Mansfield Public Library, Mansfield, MA. (LibraryReads, March 2017)
