Have we met?
“Is that him?” I sometimes hear people say, “Is that the new director?”
A number of times recently, people have approached me, both in the library and around town, to say ‘hello’ or to inquire about something pertaining to the library – and I am thrilled about that! I am passionate about librarianship, and about our wonderful library in particular, and I am also an Aries (which my daughters tell me is why, wherever I go, I always seem to find myself engaged in a conversation). If you have questions about the library or our resources or just want to say hello – I would love to have a chat. You can often find me behind the big window with all the beautiful fish on it.
But I am not the only new addition to the library. We have recently welcomed a new reference librarian to our staff, Sarah Leveille. While Sarah may not be a new face, she had been working in the library as a temporary employee, she is in a new role. Besides working at the library, Sarah is currently working on her Master of Library and Information Science degree as well. Feel free to bring her any challenging reference questions you might have or just to say ‘hello’ – perhaps both.

While there continue to be some frustrations regarding the library building, there are also some exciting new additions to the grounds as well as a reopening.
The Children’s Room does remain closed as we await the delivery of the new replacement carpet squares. This continues to be a frustrating situation for library staff and patrons, but we want to ensure that when the room reopens it has been done the right way.
But that doesn’t mean there is no good news about Children’s Room, the Children’s Programming Room has re-opened and a number of our children’s activities are taking place there. Be sure to check the GPL Calendar of Events to keep up to date on all library activities.
Just outside our Children’s Programing Room is our patio, which has some wonderful, inviting seating where you can spend some relaxing time in our garden, which is blooming away. While you are in the garden, you may also notice some new additions, musical additions. Feel free to make some music on our new toadstools, butterflies, and a particularly tall tree.

The Art of Racing in the Rain
By Garth Stein

Enzo knows he is different from other dogs: a philosopher with a nearly human soul (and an obsession with opposable thumbs), he has educated himself by watching television and by listening closely to the words of his master, Denny Swift, an up-and-coming race car driver. On the night before his death, Enzo takes stock of his life, recalling all that he and his family have been through, hoping, in his next life, to return as a human.
