GPL's September Newsletter

Have you ever thought about writing the next Great American Novel? There are great writing programs all over Westchester County to help you get started, however there are very few that are free like the excellent writing programs here at GPL.
I took over as facilitator of the GPL Writers Community in April 2018. This opportunity has given me the chance to listen to and be inspired by local authors in the community. The age and experience of members is wide-ranging and diverse.
At each session two members read their work, which is emailed to the group ahead of time. There is nothing like hearing an author read their work out loud to transport you to their story setting. Everyone in the group gets the option to give feedback, and group members strive to be thoughtful with their critiques. If you are looking for a community of local and creative writers to connect with, the GPL Writers community welcomes you.
This September, our monthly newsletter highlights the great writing programs we offer here at the library (including poetry!). Read on to learn more about our fall offerings for teens and adults alike!
Whether celebrating the writing of a classic novel, a blog post publication, or writing the first chapter of your first novel, the Greenburgh Public Library offers you the space, the support, and the many opportunities to make it happen.

Students enroll for three-session workshops. This program is partially funded by Poets&Writers, the Friends of Greenburgh Library, and Greenburgh Arts & Culture.

"I joined the GPL Writers Community so that I can network with other writers, collaborate, critique and receive input from members of the group. Writing is usually a solitary event, and it's nice to come together and feel a sense of community while sharing our stories."
-Mary, GPL Writers Community
"It provides an opportunity to not only share our own work, but go outside of our writing comfort zone and read/critique/enjoy other styles of writing on topics not normally delved into. It’s a great opportunity to meet other writers who usually become friends and colleagues."
-Tom, GPL Writers Community

NEW! Local Authors Collection
|
Greenburgh and Westchester County are home to many talented writers and authors. Librarians Nancy Larrabee and Diana Lennon have been hard at work establishing a special collection to showcase the work of published authors or book illustrators currently living or working in Westchester County, or who have ties to this area evident in their work.
This growing collection can be found in the Adult Non-Fiction area on the 2nd floor, ask a librarian to help you find it!
We invite you to donate your published work to be part of our Local Authors Collection at Greenburgh Public Library. If accepted, a single copy of the work will be labeled as "Local Author" in our catalog. Fiction and non-fiction will be shelved in the same "Local Author" collection on the second floor.
If you are interested in submitting your book, please be sure to read our
Materials Selection Policy and then submit the
online form. Bring your book to the Adult Reference Desk on the second floor of the library OR mail it to:

A well-paced, intriguing mystery taking place in Bangkok. The characters are well drawn, fascinating, nuanced and sympathetic. The protagonist, Poke Rafferty, is somewhat rumpled, caring and smart. His adopted daughter is brilliant, street smart and fiercely loyal.
