Storytime is a special and important part of childhood… Reading or listening to a story is an opportunity for children to look, listen, and think about their world. Research shows that early reading is an important building block for future learning, but it isn’t the only one. Imaginative and interactive play are also key to the development of literacy. Play gives children the opportunity to use new words, act out scenes, and solve problems creatively and imaginatively.
We champion literacy and support families in raising lifelong learners by being a source of new and exciting books to inspire your children, as well as a destination to hear stories told and to experience them with others… But did you know that we are also now a destination for interactive and imaginative play? With many thanks to the Greenburgh Library Guild, and their sponsorship in renovating our Children’s Library last year, our spaces have been enhanced with a light table, building blocks, reading nooks, and new play areas. Our Children’s Library has also added several unique items and services that will expand your children’s opportunity for reading, play, and learning (inside and outside the library!).
There are so many exciting things happening in the Children’s Library, we’ve dedicated this month’s newsletter exclusively to what we offer for little ones. If you have children in your life, take a look and see what’s happening here, we guarantee you’ll discover something that will inspire young readers!
