THE GP LENS INSTITUTE: CHECK OUT THIS MONTH'S NEW PROGRAMS

For members of the GP Lens Institute Eye Care Professional Membership Program, there is much to welcome in October. The new issue of The Advisor is outstanding. The theme is aberration-correcting contact lenses with contributions on correction of keratoconus, ortho-K, and soft lenses from GPLI Advisory Board members Drs. John Gelles, Roxanna Potter, and Marcus Noyes as well as Drs. Bita Asghari, and Anthony Mac. You will especially want to read the lead article from Drs. Gelles and Travis Pfeifer entitled: “Understanding Wavefront Aberrometry and How to Take Vision from Subpar to Super with Wavefront Guided Contact Lenses”. And if you haven’t listed to the latest installment of “GPLI Radio” with Dr. Tom Quinn you will greatly enjoy and benefit from his conversation with Dr. Katie Greiner on the topic of “Building a Specialty Contact Lens Practice with Staff Training at the Core”. Tom also presented a free COPE-approved webinar on October 17th on a very popular topic near and dear to both of us: “Multifocal Applications, Fitting, and Problem-Solving”. This webinar has a number of great clinical pearls for fitting the presbyope into contact lenses and is reviewed under “Spotlight in Education". To be reviewed in next month’s issue was an exceptional webinar this week on the topic of diagnosing and managing dry eye disease from Drs. Jessica Conroy and Vakishan Nadarajah. Although this webinar is archived under the “Students” category on gpli.info, the information presented most certainly benefits eye care professionals as well. Finally, all ECP members should have received a survey pertaining to what you feel we are doing well and what resources/programs you would like us to consider in 2024. There is also the opportunity to serve on a GPLI Membership Committee. Anyone considering membership can sign up now and it will include 2024.

SPOTLIGHT ON RESOURCES:

Building Your Practice with GP Bifocals and Multifocals

Our GP multifocal module has no less than 18 resources for ECPs, staff, and patients. These include the following:

Video-based programs on advice from GP presbyopic fitters, presenting GP presbyopic options, setting patient expectations (you’ll love this one!), choosing the right patient and lens, multifocal fitting and evaluation, and marketing your contact lens services to your presbyopic population

A professional fee calculator allows you to estimate the fee you should charge the presbyopic patient (and any specialty contact lens patient)

A two-sided laminated patient reading card

For staff there is a video series on handling patient telephone inquiries, scripts to answer patient questions, a presenting options card, a glossary of terminology, and a video series on GP lens application and removal

For patients there is a consumer brochure on multifocals and their benefits

The cards and brochures are complimentary to members. In addition, we have a number of webinars (corneal GP multifocals, scleral GP multifocals, custom soft lenses) just in the past three years on multifocal fitting and applications.
