GEORGIA ELECTION RECAP

Georgia Election Recap

  • There were no statewide elections in Georgia this fall, but every state senate and State House of Representatives seat were on the ballot. The drama was muted in the senate, as neither party gained nor lost a seat, maintaining the 33-23 GOP advantage. In the House, votes are still being counted but it appears that Democrats could potentially pick up 2 seats, eating slightly into the Republican majority.

  • Georgia voters also passed a statewide referendum that increased the tangible personal property tax exemption from $7,500 to $20,000. The increase in the exemption goes into effect January 1, 2025.

The GRA will have further analysis as more results are finalized.

FEDERAL UPDATE

  • The FTC is Cracking Down on Misleading Menu Claims

Ten seafood restaurants recently received a warning letter on how “wild-caught, American seafood” may be advertised when the seafood is actually from farm-raised foreign sources.

The letter, sent by an official at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), said the agency will crack down on false claims of locally caught fare and how “eat local” slogans or restaurant décor could be flagged as false implied claims, which could illegally mislead customers.
