US Department Of Labor Focused On Preventing Child Labor Violations, Protecting Young Workers In Southeast As Summer Hiring Surge Approaches
From 2020-2022, division assessed Southeast employers more than $2.8M in penalties
ATLANTA – With violations of child labor laws up 69 percent since 2018 and millions of minor-aged workers joining the U.S. workforce each year – many in seasonal summer jobs in the restaurant, retail and amusement industries – the U.S. Department of Labor is actively working to educate Southeast employers about their legal obligations and make sure young employees are kept safe at work and paid fully.
As part of that effort, the department’s Wage and Hour Division will hold a webinar on child labor regulations for employers, minor-aged workers and their parents, school representatives and other stakeholders on April 26 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. EDT. The webinar panel is free, but registration is required.
The webinar will include a panel discussion that will include representatives from the Wage and Hour Division; Tennessee State Department of Labor; Safety, Health, Environmental Services at Georgia Tech; Georgia Restaurant Association and the Consulate of Guatemala. Continue reading.

Restaurant server skills that will be essential in 2023

Customer service is essential to a restaurant’s survival and success. An establishment could serve the most incredible food but if the wait staff doesn't provide exceptional customer service, people will stop coming.
Great restaurant servers create an inviting atmosphere using their interpersonal skills, including the way they smile, speak and interact with customers. They should be able to clarify and elaborate on the menu, easily answering customers’ questions. Continue reading.

Restaurant owners, general managers, and human resource employees can use the following guidelines to help them to determine which managers and assistant managers are exempt from the overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), and which are not. Learn more.

Restaurant Revitalization Tax Credit
Breaking it down: The legislation would create a tax credit for payroll tax liabilities of up to $25K per quarter in 2023. To qualify for the tax credit, restaurants must have applied for but not received funds through the Restaurant Revitalization Act in 2021 and must have experienced a revenue loss of 50% in 2020 or 2021 compared with 2019, or a loss of 30% in both 2020 and 2021.
