GRAD CLAS NOTES

January 2025

Welcome to the Spring Semester!

Welcome to the Spring 2025 semester! This year presents new opportunities for growth, collaboration and continued impact within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. I’m confident that together—as students, faculty, staff and alumni—we will achieve even greater milestones and continue fostering a supportive, dynamic learning environment for our graduate community no matter what challenges may arise.

Whether you’re returning to campus or joining us as a new community member, I’m personally thrilled to have you as part of graduate studies in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The energy and enthusiasm you bring to this vibrant academic environment is truly inspiring, and I look forward to working with each of you in the months ahead.

As we begin this semester, I’d like to take a moment to highlight the importance of the graduate student voice in shaping the future of our graduate programs. While each of us plays a vital role in supporting and advancing our graduate programs to provide the best possible graduate experience, student feedback is essential to ensuring that we continue to meet and exceed graduate student needs. That’s why I encourage all graduate students—if you haven’t already done so—to take a few minutes to fill out the Graduate Student Satisfaction Survey, which has been sent to your email inboxes.

The survey is completely anonymous, and the data will be collected and analyzed by Villanova’s Office of Strategic Planning and Institutional Effectiveness (OSPIE). We truly value the graduate student perspective, and feedback will help us better understand what we’re doing well, where we can improve, and directly contribute to enhancing the graduate student experience here at Villanova. The survey will remain open until February 3, and you will receive a reminder email on January 22. Please take the time to participate or encourage your students to do so!

This spring, we’re excited to continue fostering a collaborative and innovative environment that supports our mutual growth. I’m confident that, by working together, we will build on our shared commitment to excellence throughout a productive and fulfilling semester.

Warm regards,

Emory H. Woodard IV, PhD

Dean of Graduate Studies, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

The MLA prize committee said the book "makes an ambitious intervention and speaks across genres and disciplines.
