From the Principal
Evergreen teachers and students had a wonderful Enrichment Week experience as they explored the design of God's landscapes and the patterns within his world. Enrichment Week continues to be a popular option for Evergreen families. This year we enrolled over 80 students, a new record! Evergreen staff will continue to develop unique program ideas while working to accommodate the growing number of students who are interested in this unique learning opportunity.
Tom DeJonge, Superintendent of Grand Rapids Christian Schools, is hosting a school community meeting at Evergreen on Tuesday, October 11 from 6:00-7:00pm to discuss our latest fundraising campaign, GRCS 20/20 and outline the investments that continue to be made to our Evergreen campus. This is an important meeting for any parent or staff member who has questions about GRCS 20/20, facility updates at Evergreen or would like the opportunity to learn more about district initiatives. We will gather in the Evergreen Learning Commons. I hope to see you there!
Grace and Peace,
Becky Werdon

GRCS News
Rockford Christian 20th Anniversary Celebration:
What were you doing in 1997? A group of dedicated teachers and a small group of committed parents were starting Rockford Christian School.
At that time, we were a school of 22 kids in grades K - 3. RCS started small but with a common commitment: a Christian school in northern Kent County with Christ and worship at the center and a commitment to helping kids to know, love, and serve God with their whole being. This year, we celebrate the 20th school year at Rockford Christian School. We now serve over 250 students in PK - 8th grades! We are grateful for the years of dedicated service of staff and parents over the years as we grew.
On Thursday evening, October 27, we will have a special 20th anniversary celebration that we want ALL of our friends and families-those new to school and those who were part of the beginning-to attend as we reflect on the past and look forward to the future. We will hear testimonies from RCS alum Lucas Balk and from current RCS parent Penny Lloyd-Jones about the foundation of faith that God has used our school to help build.
You can get more details and register for this special event at
www.grcs.org/RCS20
. You may also stop in the RCS office to get a formal invitation for your family or to share with someone else. We hope to see everyone there for a night of fellowship and worship as we celebrate what God has done in the first 20 years of our school and look forward to what is to come.
The Super Eagle 5k and Family Fun Run is this Saturday morning. Last year, about 110 Eagle Supporters gathered for our first 5k at Gainey Athletic Complex. This year we moved the event to a more user friendly course beginning and ending at Eagles Stadium. We are hoping to grow this event to not only become a successful fundraiser for the GRCMS but also to be an event the whole GRCS community would want to be a part of each year. We are hoping that you will support this event. You can still sign up to participate. We have NOT increased the race fee. It is still only $25 for the race, t-shirt (we will guarantee you a t-shirt, but it may not be available until next week) and refreshments! Go to
www.grcs.org/5k
.
Kids' Food Basket Service Project: Join the GRCS community this Saturday, October 8 for a service project for
Kids' Food Basket, an organization that seeks to attack childhood hunger to help young people learn and live well. We'll be decorating sack supper bags, providing kids with an extra touch of love with their sack supper. These bags will be added to others to help Kids' Food Basket reach their goal of 75,000 bags for Brown Bag Decorating Day on October 22. Make a morning of it and sign up for the
Super Eagle 5K and/or Family Fun Run and decorate bags afterward! The service project will be available from 10-11:30 am in Town Square at Grand Rapids Christian High. All ages welcome.
