Gold Rush Elementary School
February 21, 2020
First and second graders did an exceptional job Thursday evening in their musical performance! They performed several songs and dances that celebrated the arts. They also displayed their artwork that reflected the theme of art awareness. Their performance allowed students to demonstrate what they have learned in the specials' areas and conveyed their appreciation. We are proud of students' enthusiasm, and we thank Mrs. Warner, Mrs. Petty and Ms. Dazzio for making the event possible.
Gold Rush was excited to partner with the Legend Feeder this week to support the Make a Wish Foundation. Students, families and staff raised over $5,ooo to support a sixteen year old girl named Allie who has a serious heart condition. Students were excited to help support her wish to travel to Egypt. Student council officers presented our donation at the Wish Week Assembly Friday. Our officers did a wonderful job representing our school. We thank you for your generosity.
On Wednesday, February 26, students and staff will participate in a lockdown drill with District Security and the Parker Police. This is routine practice. We will inform students that if they are not in their classroom when a lockdown is announced they need to run to the closest room. We explain that if they were in the bathroom they should remain in a locked stall with their feet up. We also inform students that if they are outside they should run away from the school and find a safe spot until a person finds them.

When we signal the drill we use a system that immediately informs both the Parker Police Department and the District Security Team. This system also announces our lockdown outside the building. If you hear the announcement on Wednesday morning please know that this is a scheduled practice.

The National Association of School Psychologists provides several tips for talking with children about lockdown drills. Please see their top reminders below.

1. Assure Children They Are Safe
2. Make Time to Talk
3. Make Explanations Developmentally Appropriate
4. Review Safety Procedures
5. Observe Children's Emotional State
6. Limit Television Viewing
7. Maintain a Normal Routine
