Gold Rush Elementary School
April 26, 2019
Gold Rush students showcased their many talents Friday at the annual talent show. Students sang, danced, played instruments and told jokes. We are proud of their dedication and creativity. We are equally thrilled with their confidence and desire to share their talent with the school community. We hope you are able to join the final show this evening from 6:30-7:30 PM. We thank our music teacher, Mrs. Petty, for making the talent show possible!
Students are currently making robotic sleds in STEAM Lab as a way of exploring force and motion. After building the standard sled that pulled a certain weight, students were asked to improve on the original structure. Many students created a bottom that reduced friction and allowed the sled to glide more easily across the carpet. Others used stronger lego pieces so the sleds could move additional weight. We were impressed with students' collaboration and problem solving as they explored these science concepts in a hands-on way!
In physical education class, students are learning the many benefits of physical activity. For example, students are learning that in addition to enjoying a collaborative game, being active also boosts their academic performance and improves behavior. Many students are surprised to learn that activity benefits their mind and attitude as well as their body. By raising awareness of these benefits, physical education teacher Ms. Warner, hopes to encourage students to adopt an active lifestyle for life.
