SHARING OUR VALUES WITH INCOMING FAMILIES
We were excited to welcome incoming kindergarten families this week during Kindergarten Round Up. This was an opportunity to share Gold Rush's core values and mission to challenge critical thinkers to take risks, honor differences and care for others. I spoke about how these values are central to our daily practices and programming. For example, I shared how the workshop structure all teachers use to teach reading, writing and math allows them to teach a higher level thinking strategy or concept to all students and also set individual goals and personalize instructional materials. We also highlighted our family atmosphere and connection to the larger community, evident in our Go For the GOLD positive behavior system and our No Waste Food Initiative with the Parker Task Force. Most importantly, students recognize these values in their day to day routine. Watch the video below to see kids' views on these values.

If you have an incoming kindergarten student and were unable to attend, please contact our registrar, Christi Dismang, for information on how to register your child for the 2019-2020 school year. Registration paperwork should be turned into the office by Thursday, December 20th, 2018.

ELEMENTARY PROGRESS REPORTs
RELEASED DECEMBER 22
Teachers are celebrating students’ growth as they complete fall Elementary School Progress Reports (EPRs).   EPRs will be released to parents on Saturday, December 22nd, at 8:00 AM through Parent Portal.   Directions for accessing the report card are shown below.

* Go to the Gold Rush Website  gre.dcsdk12.or g.

* Select the Parent Resources Tab.

* Select Elementary Progress Report (EPR).

* Use your Parent Portal credentials to log in.

* Then click "View Elementary Progress Report" under your child's picture.

Your child's report card includes grades for content and learner characteristics. The following rating system is used to determine your child's level of performance:

Exceeds
Indicates a high level of achievement. It indicates a student has a strong understanding of the content/concepts/skills taught and it implies a student can demonstrate understanding independently and with very few errors.

Meets
Indicates that a student demonstrates an understanding of content/concepts/skills most of the time and with limited support. Students who are meeting standards make few major errors or omissions when demonstrating a concept or skill.

Approaching
Indicates that a student requires moderate support to demonstrate an understanding of concepts/skills. Students' ability to demonstrate their understanding of a concept or skill is inconsistent or infrequent, which indicates a partial understanding of the content, concept or skill. Students demonstrate more frequent errors or omissions.

Does Not Meet
Students who do not meet standards seldom demonstrate an understanding of concepts and skills taught. The student requires considerable support to demonstrate learning and makes frequent major errors when demonstrating his/her understanding.

You are able to view your child's information two ways - a highlight view and a comprehensive view. The highlight view includes a snapshot of how your child performed on core content standards (reading, writing and math) and how your child met school expectations of Going for the G.O.L.D. The highlights view also includes general classroom comments and some individual student comments.

The comprehensive view includes information on all subject areas, including social studies, science and specials. The comprehensive view may also include additional content comments aligned to specific content standards. You are able to access both views by clicking on the links at the top right portion of your screen.

NEW DISTRICT RAPTOR SYSTEM
Douglas County School District (DCSD) recently rolled out the Raptor Visitor Management system at our school. This system is used by many schools throughout the district and state, and will give us an additional layer of safety for our students. We are committed to protecting everyone at Gold Rush and this system helps support our commitment.

Here is how the system and our process will work:
Everyone who is visiting classrooms, joining kids for lunch, or attending a meeting or an event will have their ID/driver’s license scanned. The ONLY database that the Raptor system checks IDs against is the sexual predator database. This system does NOT check any other databases.

All DCSD schools will be using this same system very soon. Once you have scanned your ID at any school location, you will be saved in the system. Therefore, if you forget your ID in your car, DCSD schools that are utilizing Raptor will be able to look you up by your name.

All guests will be given a sticker to wear while they are in our school that is printed by this system. This sticker will have your name, the photo from your ID, and the date and time. For our frequent guests, we will try to save printing costs by placing your Raptor ID in a protective badge sleeve so you can reuse the sticker throughout the year. Each new school year we will rescan all IDs for the current school year.

Please remember to bring your ID with you next time you visit the school so we can scan it and get you logged into our system. If you have any questions, please reach out to me and I’ll work to find an answer for you.

OPTING IN FOR EMERGENCY TEXT MESSAGES
A number of our parents and guardians who have signed up to receive text alerts have not opted in to the system. This means you will not receive text alerts until you complete the registration process. Please confirm that you have selected to receive text messages in your Infinite Campus account. The next step is critical: Send a text to 68453 with the message “YES”

If you do not complete the registration process as outlined above, you will NOT receive emergency text messages. If you need further information regarding emergency messaging, please visit  https://tinyurl.com/textdcsd .

Our entire staff is committed to maintaining a happy, healthy and safe learning community for everyone! Thank you for your ongoing support
