GOLD RUSH EARNS GOVERNOR'S AWARD
Douglas County's Board Of Education celebrated Gold Rush students' outstanding growth Thursday evening. Gold Rush received the Governor's Award from the state of Colorado for exceptional growth. This is the second year that GRE has earned this distinction. This award is based on intermediate students' state assessment results, known as the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS), in the areas of reading and math.

Academic growth refers to the amount of progress students make at all achievement levels. For example, it is essential that students make significant growth whether they are meeting or exceeding grade level standards. We are proud to say that all Gold Rush students are growing at exceptional rates! We attribute this success to students' daily efforts, parental support and teachers' strong instructional practices.

UNPACKING BOOKS FROM DIGGER DASH DOLLARS

THANK YOU PTO and parents for raising money through our school fun run - the Digger Dash- for books for our classrooms! Students at each grade level have even more books because of your generous donations.

The books purchased at each grade level span a wide range of reading levels, genres and interests and are tied directly to our daily literacy lessons. We know from research that student choice in what they read and students' ability to read books with 98% accuracy are key for student achievement. Because we have a range of readers and students at read a wide variety of information and narrative texts the additional resources are essential to creating literacy rich environments in each classroom.

We thank our families and the PTO for supporting classroom instruction and fostering a love of reading!
SPREADING KINDESS
We are excited that our annual kindness week is approaching on February 11. This is a great opportunity for students to demonstrate character and leadership in our school and the larger community. This year our student council will be facilitating the following three events: Cram the Cruiser through the Parker Police Department, a class change challenge for Legend High School's Wish Week and daily school spirit days.

We are excited to collaborate with our local police department to collect food for the Parker Task force. We are hoping to collect enough food to fill an entire cruiser. We know from our existing partnership with the Task Force that the need within our community is great. Please see the flyer below for most needed items.

We are also supporting Legend High School's Wish Week as we have done in the past. We will collect change to help support a 15 year old Douglas County student suffering from pancreatic caner. Over the course of the week classrooms will compete in a change challenge. Students can bring in coins to help make a difference in this student's life.

Please look for additional details and reminders in upcoming blog posts. We appreciate your help in supporting those in need in our community!
