Gold Rush Elementary School
May 17, 2019
As you know your child's safety is our number one priority. Given recent events, there will be an increase in police and security presence at Gold Rush.

In preparation for our end-of-year events and celebrations, we will have pre-printed name badges for each person that has already been logged into our Raptor System. Please complete  this survey  by Monday, May 20, at 3:00 PM indicating which of the following events you plan on attending:

* Kindergarten Field Day
* Grades 1st-5th Field Day
* Insectopia
* Third Grade Slide Show
* Kindergarten Graduation
* Fifth Grade Slide Show & Clap Out

Pre-printed name badges will be located at the front entrance in alphabetical order. We are asking that you wear your badge at all times while in the building and only use the main entrance. Please note that staff members may approach you if your badge is not visible. We also ask that you do not hold the door open for other parents or community members as they too need to check in at the office using the Raptor System.
You may wish to complete the Raptor check in process prior to these events if you have not done so previously to avoid lines. Bring your ID into the front office to complete this process.

We thank you for your cooperation! Please feel free to contact the office if you have any questions or concerns.
Teachers are celebrating students’ growth as they complete spring Elementary School Progress Reports (EPRs). EPRs will be released to parents on Wednesday, May 29th, through Parent Portal. You will be able to access your child's EPR on this date by following the directions below.

· Click on the Parent Resources Tab

· Select Parent Portal and use your credentials to log in.

· Click "View Elementary Progress Report" under your child's picture

As you may recall, you are able to view your child’s information in two ways. The highlights page includes a snapshot of how your child performed on content standards (reading, writing and math) and how your child met our school expectations of Going for the G.O.L.D. Also included in the highlights page are general classroom comments and individual student comments.

The comprehensive view allows you to see how your child did on all subject areas and specials. You are able to view any additional comments for the specific content areas under the comprehensive view. You are able to access both formats by clicking on the links at the top of the EPR.
The theme for this year is "The Science of Play."  Stations are designed to explore various science concepts, including simple machines, the solar system, habitats, Newton's Laws of physics, friction, kinetic energy, states of matter, and aerodynamics. Please see the schedule below for your child's field day schedule.

May 21 @ 8:45 - 10:30 - Kindergarten Field Day

Field Day is moved indoors and modified if we have rain. We still need eighteen volunteers to run the stations in the morning of May 22. Parents can volunteer between 8:45 - 10:15 or 10:15 - 11:45. Please email Karen Warner at if you are able to volunteer.

Parent volunteer, Reggie Zeece, and art teacher, Mrs. Dazzio, worked throughout the year to complete our yearbook! Students will receive their yearbooks on Thursday, May 23. We will sell remaining yearbooks on a first come first serve basis on Friday, May 24, at 7:45 AM. Parents must be present. Yearbooks are $20 each and will be sold one per family. We can only accept checks.
Students participating in Golden Ticket Theatre performed Mary Poppins on Friday, and it was outstanding!  We were impressed with students' ability to sing, dance and act!

We hope that you attend a show this weekend at Legend High School. Showtimes are the following:

Kindergartners tested out the concept of force and motion during the egg drop. They reflected on what parts of their contraptions worked and which could be improved. Classes also charted how many eggs remained inact! We are happy to report that most eggs made it this year!
Third grade concluded their study of financial literacy by hosting a Market Day Friday.  After learning about the concepts of marketing and supply and demand, students created their own products that they priced and “sold” to their classmates and parents. Students then reflected on which products sold out and why. We were proud of students’ creativity, which was evident in their products and advertising.
Over 60 students put their math and problem solving skills to the test weekly during Math Olympiad. They also competed in national math competitions. Many students placed in the top 50th and 20th percentile nationally. Our top scorer, Griffin Stork, scored in the top 2% in the nation. We are proud of all students' willingness to pursue additional math opportunities!
