| Pinch, punch, and it's the first of the month – and while we're not sure where the year has gone, we're now into November. We Sew and Sews have been sewing like the clappers finishing our quilts for our staff Block of the Month challenge, the results of which you can see from our Saturday Open Day this weekend all the way through until Christmas. | All kinds of styles in our very own Quilt Show | Here's our Fiona's characteristically Celtic contribution to our Staff Quilt Challenge. |
She used Lewis & Irene's Celtic-themed fabric collections (above) and her stash of Batik designs to create her beautiful quilt, using Vlieseline's high-loft R200 recycled polyester wadding for a soft, luxurious feel.
| Great designs were always on the cards in our Staff Challenge |
To inspire our staff quilters, we used blocks from the the Quilt Builder Card Deck, a very clever box of tricks.
The deck contains 40 blocks, each on its own card, with the illustration on the front and cutting instructions for 6in, 8in, 12in and 36in blocks on the back.
It's perfect for quilt designers wanting to create a unique look, as you'll see if you visit our Lady Sew and Sew exhibition: it opens this Saturday, November 4th, with another Saturday opening on November 18th.
| Get with the program – EQ8's much more than quilting by numbers |
Take the high-tech approach to designing your next project with the Electric Quilt 8 computer design software package, which will give you instant access to more than 6000 unique blocks. The software comes with more than 40 new and updated features from previous versions, including thousands of new block designs and fabrics.
|
Design your own quilts using the included blocks and fabrics (or add your own), then print your fabric yardage, rotary-cutting charts, templates, or foundation patterns and sew your unique masterpiece!
And when you buy the software as a bundle with the EQ8 Lessons for Beginners book, you'll receive a free copy of Judy Gauthier's Sensational Quilts for Scrap Lovers book, worth £28.99.
Here's a quick look at what EQ8 can do for your quilting:
| Next Spring, you could be quilting in the ROAR! with Tula Pink | New dinosaur-themed collection is on the way – and it's available to preorder right now |
There's no stopping Tula Pink – having just delivered her Besties collection, celebrating the close bond we have with have with our pets, now she's previewing her next collection, featuring rather bigger beasts: ROAR!
Tula says that 'ROAR! is a whimsical take on fancy dinosaurs for those of us who keep one foot firmly planted in fantasy. My prehistoric landscape is drenched in details and color: here you'll find a sophisticated T-Rex in a topiary, a triceratops out for a stroll on a windy parkway path, happy little hidden raptors in a dainty damask, and pterodactyls taking time to smell the flowers.'
|
The whole collection is available now to preorder, either by the metre or in Fat Quarter, Half-Yard and Whole-Yard 21-piece Full Collection packs.
And of course there are ROAR! Quilt Kits, too, including the sensational Big Bang Quilt Kit seen below, which makes up to a huge – and very dramatic – 96in square.
| | | |
Designed by Stacey Day, the kit includes all the fabric to make the quilt top – no less than 213/8yd of it! –, plus a pattern booklet, foundation paper, templates and colour diagrams.
We're sure it's going to be a huge seller, so preorder yours now with a small deposit – we need to get our orders in with the supplier by November 20th, so don't miss out.
| |
Meanwhile, here's Tula with more about ROAR!:
We've lots more dinosaur designs to tempt you, too
From cute dinosaurs for nursery makes to glow-in-the-dark dinos and licenced Jurassic Park prints, we have something for every fan of all things prehistoric

This Christmas, dress your tree up in a Strippy Skirt
With just over 50 sewing days until Christmas, think décor for your festive makes with this attention-grabbing Strippy Tree Skirt. The pattern lets you make three sizes of skirt, and they're a breeze to put together using 2.5in rolls of fabric and precut wadding strips. |
We have all you need to make the skirt or other strippy rugs, including patterns and Bosal's Katahdin On-A-Roll wadding, which comes in a 50yd pack – more than enough for even the biggest rug!
We have a choice of Jelly Roll Rug Patterns, and also tools to make the projects even easier: the Clover Fabric Tube Maker speeds up the making of the elements of the rugs, while Janome's Purple Tip Sewing Machine Needles will help you pull the whole thing together.

Step into Confetti Wood with Delphine Brooks
Celebrate the Autumnal landscape and learn a new technique with Confetti Wood, which is brand-new from designer Delphine Brooks.
It contains step-by-step instructions to make a mini art quilt using the confetti quilting method.
All you need do is cut fabric into tiny pieces, lay over a piece of backing fabric and sprinkle to form a picture, such as the woodland scene at the heart of the project.
| |
Here's a fine mesh to finish your confetti quilt
Sheer netting is laid over to encase the fabric and stop it from falling out – the Very Fine White Mesh seen below is ideal for this and all kinds of shadow quilting. The project is then machine–stitched over the top to fix everything in place.

As we go to press, some quilts are more finished than others – hence our Judy's steely concentration on Monday evening as she got stuck into hand-quilting her offering.
She promises it'll be done, so why not come along on Saturday to find out if she made it – and of course for some shopping time!

The exhibition of our quilts will run until Christmas, open during our usual Warehouse hours – or you could come and see them
