Let's Get Back to the Basics about Mental Health
Mental Health Awareness Month comes every May; this particular month, we would like to focus on the foundational knowledge behind mental health. How can we continue to increase awareness around the topic and work with our colleagues to reach our goals? Outreach to the general public is critical to our mission. How can we do that? We can always keep the basics in mind. AGPA recognizes this month as a time to promote mental health awareness and wellness for all and will post weekly tips and resources on our Instagram @agpa01. Visit agpa.org to learn about the many benefits of seeking professional help and how quality group psychotherapy care as a primary treatment method can change lives. Please feel free to share all this information broadly.
The Basics of Group Therapy
AGPA created this valuable resource to address many of the general public's common questions about group therapy. How do you break down what group therapy is and its benefits?

What is Group Therapy?

Group psychotherapy is an effective form of therapy in which a small number of people meet together under the guidance of a professionally trained therapist to help themselves and one another. There are many different approaches to group therapy, but they share in common creating a safe, supportive, and cohesive space to address personal, relationship and societal issues.

The Future of Group Therapy
Engage with the work the Group Foundation funds and supports!
Help Group Grow
It's Mental Health Month, and at the Group Foundation, we dedicate ourselves to changing lives through group psychotherapy by advancing the most effective and innovative approaches to group therapy education, training, research, and community outreach. Millions of people face the challenge of living with a mental illness, and with the power of group, we can provide support to those in need.

One of the ways the Group Foundation accomplishes this is by providing scholarships for group psychotherapy training and education. Over 80 students and new professionals attended AGPA Connect 2022 with assistance from the Group Foundation's donors. They have expressed their appreciation to donors and all who made AGPA Connect 2022 a success. You can hear from some of them directly through their letters.

Donate today because mental health is essential, and group can help.

Congratulations to AGPA Member Stacy Nakell, LCSW, CGP, on their forthcoming book,
Treating Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors: An Integrative Psychodynamic Approach
Treatment for Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors is the first book to establish the theory and practice of a psychodynamic approach to treating body-focused repetitive behavior disorders (BFRBDs), such as hair pulling, skin picking, and cheek, lip, and cuticle biting. Chapters set out a new framework for understanding and treating BFRBDs, one grounded in attachment theory and neurobiological research. The book is a part of Routledge's Focus on Mental Health Series, set for release on August 1, 2022.

Former AGPA President Dr. Molyn Leszcz praised Nakell's work, "Nakell provides outstanding guidance to psychotherapists who want to engage in deep work while promoting behavioral change, focusing on translating body language into words to heal..."

We hope you enjoy this informative and valuable resource from a colleague. AGPA Members receive 35% off all Taylor & Friends Group Titles! Log on to the AGPA members-only site to access the AGPA discount code.
