I am excited to introduce myself as the new dean of the GSBMS. Over the summer I enjoyed a very warm welcome from the NYMC community and I look forward to forging meaningful connections with our alumni. I intend to draw on your wisdom and experience as we move ahead.

GSBMS Launches New M.S. in Clinical Laboratory Sciences Program
 In keeping with the New York Medical College (NYMC) mission to educate outstanding health care professionals for the 21st century, the Graduate School of Basic Medical Sciences (GSBMS) is launching a newly created Master of Science Clinical Laboratory Sciences (CLS) program, making NYMC one of a few colleges in New York State to offer this unique master's degree. The Master of Science in CLS is aimed at educating and graduating exceptional clinical laboratory scientists who are required by the State of New York to earn their license prior to working in a hospital laboratory. Clinical laboratory scientists are at the heart of clinical care, performing diagnostic tests which monitor treatments and uncover new disease states, while continuously communicating with medical staff to improve patient care and treatment outcome.
The GSBMS is currently accepting applications for the program, which will encompass all areas of clinical laboratory testing: chemistry, toxicology, hematology, urinalysis, immunohematology, hemostasis, diagnostic immunology, clinical microbiology, histocompatibility and molecular diagnostics. CLS classes will begin in July 2019.

College Supporters Gather for a Festive Evening at the Founder's Dinner
More than 300 supporters of New York Medical College (NYMC) gathered for an evening of celebration at the 2018 Founder's Dinner on October 14 at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Tarrytown, N.Y. The fundraising gala benefits student scholarships and important initiatives at NYMC. Guests celebrated the spirit of NYMC and paid tribute to the three distinguished honorees of the evening.

NYMC Welcomes Bess J. Chazhur, M.S., as Chief Development Officer and Executive Director of Alumni Relations
Bess J. Chazhur, M.S.
, has been named chief development officer and executive director of alumni relations, bringing extensive development and leadership experience that will drive forward New York Medical College's (NYMC) fundraising initiatives and alumni engagement. Prior to joining the NYMC community in October, Ms. Chazhur was the senior director of development at Montefiore Medical Center.

NYMC Hosts Fourth Annual East-West Integrative Medical Symposium for Immunology and Wellness
 More than 100 attendees from across the U.S. and as far away as the United Kingdom and China, gathered at New York Medical College (NYMC) for the Fourth "East-West Integrative Medical Symposium for Immunology and Wellness-Clinical Practice, Science and Technology" on July 1
5, organized and hosted by the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. The forum, with a simultaneous English-to-Chinese translation available for guests, discussed scientific advances in the area of allergies and wellness and sought to bridge international collaborations for research and education, as well as offer clinical applications of integrative models of treatment for allergic disorders and for promoting wellness.

GSBMS Hosts Largest STAR Program to Date
 The Graduate School of Basic Medical Sciences' Summer Trainees in Academic Research (STAR) program welcomed more than 60 high school and undergraduate students to New York Medical College (NYMC) this summer. They spent their days in laboratories, attended weekly seminars on various scientific topics, learned laboratory safety practices and conducted research in an active laboratory under the guidance of a NYMC faculty mentor. The culmination of their summertime work was the Seventh Annual STAR Student Research Forum on August 9. The Medical Education Center's Wilner Lobby was packed where participants presented their work in poster format, followed by oral presentations in the Chouake Auditorium. Dana G. Mordue, Ph.D., associate professor of microbiology and immunology, engaged the young audience with her presentation, "Babesiois: the Emerging Malaria-like Disease in Your Backyard." , right, president and chief scientific officer of Regeneron, gave an afternoon presentation on July 11 to a standing-room-only audience. He presented "Building A Better Biotech: The Story Of Regeneron," sharing the history and successes of Regeneron, the only biopharmaceutical company led by physician-s
cientists for nearly 30 years that "bet it all on the power of genetics," first mouse genetics, then human genetics.
