Trauma Informed Care
The Trauma-Informed Committee would like to thank all staff in participating in the ARTIC survey and our all-staff training. In an effort to continue building a workplace culture based upon trauma-informed care, the committee will continue to provide you with ongoing training and resources. They believe these resources will reinforce this culture, and help enrich our relationships with each other and our patients. As we begin to learn how to communicate in this new way, we will begin our training with a Stigma-Free Trauma-Informed Language guide created by the committee. This is by no means exhaustive. As an agency, we must take care to word our notes and communicate to our peers from a trauma-informed lens because language shapes perceptions and words have power. You can find this link (and other useful links) on the Staff Portal under the "Resources" section.

Shortcuts to What You Need
Rather than hunting all over the N drive or wandering all over the office looking for the info you need or the person who can help you with something, check out the new Staff Portal. Click the icon on your desktop to find links to all kinds of useful info in one place, organized in categories like Calendar, About Us, QI and Risk Management, Communications, HR, Benefits, Payroll, Employee Info, Computers, Phones, Appreciating Each Other, Employee Health, Did You Know, Where to Find It, Platforms, How-To, Facilities and Safety, Supplies and Equipment and Resources. More info is coming – this is just a start. Take a moment to scroll through all 5 pages so you will know what info you can find when you need it. If you have suggestions for making this portal more useful, please contact Margie Wachtel.

Also, the Staff Shout-Out link on your desktop now takes you to your choice of Star Cards or Employee of the Month nominations, making it easier than ever to show your coworkers how much you appreciate them.
Meet the Family Center Team
and play the Fun Facts game
Each month, we feature a different department in the newsletter. This month, meet the Family Center team and see if you can guess which fun facts go with which person.

But first: Family Center Manager Jo Ann Clement wishes that everyone realized what a diverse group of individuals attend our programs and that we welcome all families. Our programs include:
  • Home visiting – we will go to the family’s home to identify needs, help them access services, and offer strategies to reduce stress and improve family life.
  • We work with the family to identify needs, help them access services, and offer strategies to reduce stress and improve family life. Visits can be done in the home, in the community, at Families First or Goodwin.
  •   Family programs and playgroups, this summer including evening hikes and swimming at the YMCA
  •  Parenting classes  - hosted by experts in the field, help to give parents and caregivers the tools they need to be the best they can be.

All of our programs are free; many provide free childcare as well. ***We are currently not offering child care.

Executive Skills Functioning Class
Tuesday, August 24, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.
Online | Free
Back to School season is here!
As we look ahead to a new school year we are excited to welcome school psychologist Dr. Peg Dawson, E.D., to talk to us about executive skills — what they are and why they are so important for our kids.
Children need “executive skills” — such as sustained attention, working memory, planning, organization, and goal-directed persistence — to succeed in school and, more importantly, to get things done in their lives. Some kids seem to acquire these brain-based skills naturally, but many struggle with them. Dr. Dawson, the co-author of the books Smart but Scattered and Smart but Scattered Teens, will describe how these skills develop throughout childhood and suggest strategies parents can use to help children acquire the critical skills they need to be successful.
This event is virtual and a ZOOM link will be emailed to all participants a few days prior to the event. Please contact Patrice Baker if you have any questions.
