New Occupational Therapy Club
Taylor Hall , a UNH student working on her master’s in Occupational Therapy, has teamed up with Goodwin to create the Healthy Hobbies Occupational Therapy Club. Occupational Therapy (OT) utilizes the therapeutic aspects of daily activities to help people who are experiencing illness, injury, or disability get back to doing the things they want and need to do. The Healthy Hobbies Club is for any adult wanting to include more social and creative activities in their daily lives. “As adults, it is easy to forget to include fun things for ourselves or even find the time beyond work, family, and social lives,” says Taylor. “The HHC is a convenient weekly social club where adults can come to Goodwin to channel their inner artists and explore their creative side by participating in hands-on creative activities such as painting, cooking and woodworking." The club meets Monday afternoons at Goodwin - details at button below and in the Pass it On section of this newsletter.
Feel-Good Photo Ops
Scenes from our donor appreciation party on June 12: CEO Janet Laatsch with four of our Board members; Behavioral Health Services Manager Karen Frarie and Primary Care Physician
Eden Beams speaking to the crowd (thank you, Karen and Eden!); and Elizabeth Clemence
and Paula Place of the Development Department, working the door.
Greater Seacoast employees gathered for Portsmouth Pride on Saturday, June 22.
With help from this great bunch of volunteers, our 10th annual Fathers Day 5k raised $62,000!
Building an Inclusive Health Center
In March, Greater Seacoast Community Health launched its Inclusivity Committee with the intention of creating a more welcoming environment for LGBTQIA + staff, patients and community members. (The LGBTQIA+ acronym is explained here.) After staff members recognized that the LGBTQIA+ community faces health and social disparities, a group of interested employees was convened with the goal of declaring Greater Seacoast Community Health an inclusive health organization.
You may wonder what an inclusive health center looks like . It’s more than flying a rainbow flag. Here are some of the ways we are making Greater Seacoast Community Health more inclusive:
- Hosting ACLU Trans Identities trainings for staff
- Tabling at Pride events
- Creating LGBTQIA+ web pages and resources
- Editing brochures and media to use more inclusive language
Interested in getting involved? Have questions?
There are some simple steps you can take build a more inclusive health center:
- Take a moment to read over some introductory brochures:
- Take a look at Goodwin's LGBTQIA+ web page to learn more about the important services available to this population.
The Inclusivity Committee held a dessert buffet and Trans Identities training
on June 19 at Goodwin.

Nipping “Reply All” in the Bud
“Reply All” can be handy when you need to have a group conversation by email. But many times, it is overused and results in unnecessarily cluttered inboxes (not to mention, sometimes, embarrassment). If you are starting an email thread to a large group of people and don't intend to start a group conversation, you can shut this down before it starts by putting the addresses in the Bcc (blind copy) line rather than the To or Cc line. This way, when people reply to you they will not accidentally “Reply All.” And if you are replying to a group email, choose Reply rather than Reply All unless you really need the entire group to see your answer.

Even when you can't give a customer what they want in the moment, telling them what you CAN do will go a long way toward building loyalty and turning "unacceptable dissatisfaction" to "acceptable dissatisfaction."
