The hoary Townsend daisy is one of many delicate, but hardy native plants on the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Its hoary white leaves are covered in hairs that protect it from drying out in harsh environments.

Dear Grand Staircase,

The Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument protects objects that range from the tiniest of plants to locations that inspire reverie and spiritualism. The Monument is part of a growing system of conservation lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management.

In this update, we will take a quick minute to give thanks, remind you of the different approaches to land management that are on the table next week, and provide you with some new ways to help support the stewardship of this fabulous landscape.

We will be back with our regular newsletter after the elections.

Grand Staircase Escalante Partners interviewed as part of Los Angeles Times article about Project 2025

Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument and many others exist because of a Federal law called the Antiquities Act. Reporter James Rainey recently published a story about the potential ramifications of Project 2025, which includes a concerted effort to limit presidential powers to designate national monuments using the Antiquities Act.

Read the article, "Trump downsized national monuments. Biden restored them. Project 2025 calls for reductions again," as part of your plans to be informed about the different possible approaches to managing national monuments that could be taken by our Federal government.

Thank you to the 165 volunteers who have worked on the Monument between January 1 and October 6, 2024!
