Unconventional and New Energy SIG: The Critical Role of Geophysical Data in Couple Modeling and Calibration for EGS

Day: Thur-07-May-2026 11:30 pm to 1:00 pm This is a hybrid event.

Speaker: Joel Le Calvez, slb

Location: TGS 10451 Clay Rd., Houston, TX 77041

Summary: Enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) could greatly expand geothermal energy production, but doing so requires reducing major uncertainties in how the subsurface behaves. We hold the position that fully understanding the coupled thermal, hydraulic, mechanical, and chemical (THMC) processes is essential...

Data Processing and Acquisition SIG: Elastic Dynamic Matching FWI Robustness Against Initial Model Errors Using Ultra-long Offset OBN and Gemini Source Data

Day: Tues-12-May-2026 12.00 pm to 1:00 pm
This is a virtual only event.

Speaker: Khaled Abdelaziz, Principal Geophysicist at TGS

Summary: Elastic Dynamic Matching FWI (E-DMFWI) mitigates key limitations of conventional FWI—such as cycle skipping and dependence on accurate starting models—by enabling robust convergence even with large initial errors...

Rock Physics SIG: Constraining Mineral Properties for Fluid Substitution Using Digital Rock Simulations

Day: Wed-13-May-2026 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm This is a hybrid event.

Speaker: Ronny Hofmann, Shell Oil

Location: GSH Geoscience Center, 1790 W Sam Houston Parkway N, Houston TX 77043

Those interested are invited to join for dinner afterwards at the Lazy Oaks on Long Point Road.

Summary: Fluid substitution is a cornerstone of quantitative seismic interpretation, widely applied to distinguish between brine- and hydrocarbon-saturated pore systems and to quantify the effects of lithology on seismic responses...
