We are excited to be writing today from the city of Merida, in Yucatan, Mexico, at the start of the 19th annual World Summit of Nobel Peace laureates. As many of you know, Jonathan Granoff, President of the Global Security Institute, has been a close associate of the Summit for more than 15 years, and serves as the Special Representative to the UN for the Summit.
This year's Summit, attended by 30 Nobel Peace Prize laureates and representatives of Nobel Peace Prize laureate organizations, will be live streamed. Mr.Granoff will be moderating a panel tomorrow (Friday) at 1:20 pm Eastern time on "Priorities for Nuclear Disarmament," with Nobel Peace laureates former President of South Africa F.W. De Klerk, Maria Eugenia Villareal of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, former Undersecretary General of the United Nations and President of Pugwash Ambassador Sergio Duarte, Dr. Ira Helfand, co-founder of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War and Anton Camen,
Legal Adviser at International Committee of the Red Cross.
On Saturday September 21 at 10:00 a.m. Eastern time, Mr. Granoff will be speaking on a panel entitled "The Power of Law vs. the Law of Power" with Nobel Peace laureates Dr. Shirin Ebadi, Lord David Trimble, President F. W. De Klerk, former Prime Minister of Portugal and President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso.
