GSSCC members are like family. We promote and celebrate each other's success. We share problems and provide solutions. We always offer support, even if we do not always agree. And we are committed to the well-being of our extended family members: Greater Silver Spring's non-profit organizations, residents, visitors and customers, for whom we are grateful.

At its annual Awards & Installation Dinner, set for Thursday, June 27, at the DoubleTree by Hilton, GSSCC will recognize some of the member organizations the personify the idea that Chamber members are committed to supporting each other and the community.  We will inaugurate our "Circle of Stars," for-profit companies that personify excellence in corporate social responsibility through their efforts to make Silver Spring a better place to live, work, and run a business, specifically through service to the community during the past year in support of non-profit/community organizations or causes.  We will also recognize the Young Professional who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and outstanding contribution to the chamber during the past year.

GSSCC is seeking nominations for both these award groups.  Click here to nominate a member to be inducted into the GSSCC "Circle of Stars."  Click here  to nominate a Young Professional  for the "Trail Blazer" award.
Have You Faced Challenges Doing Business in Montgomery County?
The New County Executive Wants to Hear Your Story

County Executive Marc Elrich and Council Vice President Sidney Katz are embarking on a multi-pronged joint initiative: 4Business - Benchmarking to Be the Best for Business. The first phase of 4Business is focused on the regulatory climate, including codes, the permitting process, licensing, inspections, and other issues. The  campaign will kick off with information gathering sessions and public comments that can be submitted to  4Business@Montgomerycountymd.gov  and through a survey that will be posted online.

A listening session has been scheduled in Silver Spring from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, in the Silver Spring Civic Building.   This is a great opportunity for Chamber members to provide input about what you need to succeed in your business and to share your experiences in locating and growing your businesses in Montgomery County.
Registration is not required, but appreciated here. GSSCC would like to get an idea of how many members will be participating.

WANTED: Books, Especially Children's Books

GSSCC's Young Professionals Network is asking all members to support its book drive now through the end of April to benefit CCI Health & Wellness Services.  Reading aloud is one of the most important things parents can do with their children. It helps children develop the early language and literacy skills needed to achieve academic success. Unfortunately, children in low-income, minority families face barriers that limit their access to books and frequency of reading, which delays early childhood literacy development. That's why CCI provides free books for all children to take home, each time they come to see the doctor. Help stock CCI's reading corner with books by collecting new or gently used books at your businesses all month long. Contact Jessica Wilson for more information.
