AFI DOCS Starts This Week - Tickets Still Available

AFI DOCS 2019 kicks off in just two days! GSSCC is, once again, pleased to be a sponsor for this event, described by the Washington Post as "the nation's leading documentary film festival." This year's program, which returns to the AFI Silver Theatre and Washington, DC from June 19 through June 23, includes more than 70 films, as well as insightful panels, presentations and more. * Congratulations to new GSSCC member Curiosity Stream on being selected as "Emerging Company of the Year" by the Maryland Tech Council at the association's annual awards ceremony last month. Launched in 2015, Curiosity Stream is a video-on-demand service that offers  factual documentary entertainment providing viewers the opportunity to, for example, see "Stephen Hawking's Favorite Places," adventure through "Reef Expeditions," or learn about the "People of Pompeii." 

* Shepherd's Table has selected Manny Hidalgo as its new Executive Director, to replace Jacki Coyle, who is retiring after 15 years of service to the organization.  Read more here.

Reminder - County Minimum Wage Increases July 1

The minimum wage in Montgomery County is set to increase again on July 1. The new wage level will be based on the number of employees at each business. This increase was put in place by legislation signed into law on November 17, 2017, and calls for the County minimum wage to go up each July 1, until it reaches $15 per hour in 2022 for large employers and incrementally thereafter until all employers pay at least $15 per hour.  They must base increases on the CIP-W (Consumer Price Index for Urban Wge Earners and Clerical Workers.  See the chart below for details through 2022.

Employees age 18 and under, who work fewer than 20 hours per week, are exempt from these rates. 

An employer who provides "home health services" or "home or community-based services" and receives at least 75 percent of gross revenues through state and federal Medicaid programs, may apply to the Office of Human Rights for designation as an eligible services provider subject to an adjusted implementation schedule.
