Here's a recap of GSSCC advocacy in Annapolis last week and a preview of activity this week:

HB664 - Labor and Employment - Payment of the Minimum Wage Required (Fight for Fifteen) - GSSCC testified in opposition to this bill because it would shorten the implementation period for employers having ten or fewer employees by one year, and would require all tipped employees to be on the same track toward paid $15 per hour by 2023. GSSCC asked legislators to make sure any laws passed at the state level maintain the tipped wage, either be less onerous than existing Montgomery County law, and follow the "one state, one law" concept.

HB974 - Lavor and Employment - Exemptions from Overtime Pay - Administrative, Executive, or Professional Capacity - GSSCC submitted written testimony opposing this legislation that would expand the number of administrative and professional employees who qualify for overtime pay, moving the threshold up to $46,800 per year.

GSSCC will testify or submit written testimony this week in opposition to a number of labor and employment bills, including: SB543, the Senate version of the Fight for Fifteen bill; SB235, SB369, and SB1019, all differing versions of minimum wage legislation.
