GSSCC Members Report Business-as-Usual, But Urge Common-Sense Practices to Keep Employees Healthy

With reports of COVID-19 cases in Montgomery County, the novel coronavirus is on everyone's mind. GSSCC has been following the reports and guidance of State and County government officials. County health officials have said that the risk to the general public is very low but do advise common sense practices that prevent the spread of any illness.

Chamber members with whom GSSCC has spoken say they are doing business as usual, but reminding employees of these practices to maintain a safe workplace and protect the health of their employees, including:
  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use alcohol-based hand sanitizers.
  • Avoid touching eyes, mouth and nose with unwashed hands.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then immediately put the tissue in the trash.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
Some members also said that they are encouraging employees not to shake hands with business contacts. Knowing that for many of us, shaking hands is part of business-as-usual, GSSCC reached out to look for alternative ways of greeting our colleagues. Here's a video demonstration of five of those alternatives.
