As we prepare to embark upon the 2025 GTA AM Tour season, we would like to welcome new and returning players to the Tour’s handicap club with a discussion of the very rigorous measures we take to ensure a level playing field for our members. Some measures we take to ensure the maintenance of current and accurate handicap Indexes include the following:
Flight Monitors (who are also Tour participants) review the handicap records of ALL competitors before every Tour event.
Competitors are automatically moved to a lower Index flight when their handicap changes accordingly.
For all Tour rounds, the Tour will automatically post the scores of all competitors.
All players report scores for rounds played at courses that are not in the Golf Canada system so that a Tour specific protocol can be applied to post those scores for handicap purposes. If you play a course not in the Golf Canada system, please report the score to matt@gtaamtour.com
Maintaining a Current and Accurate handicap Index is the responsibility of all Tour players to ensure a level playing field for all competitors.
The active handicap season in Ontario runs from April 15th to October 31st. This means that ALL scores for rounds played in Ontario (or anywhere else) during this time period must be posted to your handicap record on the day of play.
Eligible scores for handicap include 9 HOLE SCORES and MATCH PLAY scores. Eligible scores also include “practice rounds” where a player may be trying out a swing change or a new club. The point is, the player may not choose which scores to post as ALL SCORES MUST BE POSTED. The only exception to posting all scores are scores from rounds played when you are not hitting every shot, such as in scramble or alternate shot format play. Rounds played alone will not count toward handicap but must be posted.
NOTE: The Tour REQUIRES that you post scores Hole-by-Hole. Scores posted hole-by hole are automatically adjusted for Equitable Stroke Control (ESC) which sets a maximum score of net double bogey on any given hole. Posting hole-by-hole also provides an additional layer of peer review and transparency.
