Diversity in Gorge Tech |
The Gorge Technology Alliance strongly believes that a welcoming environment for a diverse workforce supports a robust high tech ecosystem in the region, stronger companies, and a more robust community.
Throughout our initiatives, we support this value. Some key examples include:
- Youth Robotics: Increasing access to youth robotics programming through the GTA's investment in the equipment needed for teams of all incomes to participate. Additionally, the GTA supports annual coaches training support additional participation.
- STEM Career Day: The GTA started the STEM Career Day focused on exposing all seventh grade students in the Gorge to career opportunities in STEM.
- Corwin Hardham Scholarship: The GTA seeks to ensure access to higher education for Gorge students interested in STEM career paths.
- Gorge Women in STEM: The GTA supports the Gorge Women in STEM group and engages with them to increase conversation about how to address the gender gap in tech and support more women entering the workforce.

Dirt Hugger is a state-of-the-art organics recycling and soil production facility. Each year they process over 40,000 tons of material into over 15,000 yards of organic soils. Join us for a unique virtual tour of their operations in Dallesport to learn more about how two mechanical engineers approached designing a compost and soil products operation that keeps valuable organic waste from going to the landfill. The Gorge STEM HUB is working with a cross-state team to take a regional approach to career connections for Gorge students in 2020-21 and beyond. The team includes
Career Connect SW WA, STEM Hub, local high schools, and industry representatives.
The regional team's main area of focus will be on Career Exploration. Please consider taking a moment to complete this

COVID-19 Emergency Business Assistance Grants |
Mid-Columbia Economic Development District (MCEDD) was granted $250,000 from Business Oregon to distribute COVID-19 Emergency Business Assistance Grants in Hood River, Sherman and Wasco Counties. Grants will be disbursed on a first come, first-served basis with $100,000 each earmarked for Hood River and Wasco Counties and $50,000 for Sherman County.
Small businesses and non-profits with 25 or fewer employees that have been adversely affected by economic conditions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic and have not received federal emergency assistance may be eligible to apply. For detailed requirements and application visit here.
