Alma Mater: LaGrange College where I was a 4 year collegiate athlete, Kennesaw State University
Degree(s): BA in Political Science, minor in Spanish, from LaGrange, MA in American Studies from KSU
Favorite activity/hobby: Watching and attending sporting events, brewery hopping with my husband and rescue dog, Bart.
What is the best part of your job? The best part of my job as an exploratory advisor is meeting with all types of students from various majors helping them decide to remain in their major, change to a different major or explore minors and certificates. Every appointment is very different!
Where is your favorite place on campus? My favorite place on campus is the Clough rooftop. You can find me up there a few times a day in between appointments.
Unique/exciting thing you bring to Georgia Tech? I have worked in a few different populations of students in my higher education career. I have been an exploratory advisor for 5 years and I have seen every type of student! I also have been an advisor for Integrative Studies and Culinary, Sustainability, and Hospitality. Previously, I worked in an athletic department at another institution for 5 years and am currently pursuing a doctorate in higher education administration with my dissertation focusing on Title IX equality in collegiate athletics.
Anything else that you would like for the GTAAN community to know about you and/or your role at Tech?
Even though I am new to this role, our department is open to meet with your students who need assistance in finding a new major, changing their major, or want to explore minors or certificates. These students can make an appointment with myself or the other exploratory advisor, Devoni Williams, on AdvisorLink. You can also use this form to refer a student to us and we will reach out to them.

Updates on the Georgia Legislative Requirements
On March 31, 2023, the Office of Undergraduate Education and Office of the Registrar announced a revision to the implementation of the plan for completion of the Georgia Legislative Requirements (U.S. history, U.S. Constitution, GA history, GA Constitution).
The new implementation extends the "four-for-one" plan that has been in place since 1995 through April 30, 2023. This means that all students who first matriculated any semester before summer 2023 can fulfill all four GLR requirements with one of the following classes: HIST 2111, HIST 2112, INTA 1200, POL 1101, or PUBP 3000. This class also fulfills three of the 12 required hours for Core Area E. This policy is based on MATRICULATION YEAR, so any student who matriculates before summer 2023 needs only one of the five classes to complete all four GLRs, even if they haven't taken any of the classes yet (i.e., the policy will not apply retroactively to any students matriculating before summer 2023).
Beginning May 1, 2023, students can complete the four required Georgia Legislative Requirements in a variety of ways, through combinations of AP/IB/dual enrollment/transfer credit, coursework at Georgia Tech, and/or examination through a non-credit, non-tuition bearing Canvas course. The most notable change in the revised implementation is that HIST 2111 and HIST 2112 taken at Georgia Tech will now fulfill both the U.S. history and GA history GLR, while INTA 1200, POL 1101, and PUBP 3000 will now fulfill both the U.S. Constitution and GA Constitution GLR. It should also be noted that the requirements for Core Area E remain the same: all students MUST earn credit for HIST 2111, HIST 2112, INTA 1200, POL 1101, or PUBP 3000.
Canvas courses with the learning modules and examinations will be rolled out in late August or early September. Moving forward, all students will be added to the appropriate GLR Canvas exam sites early in their second semester on campus. For the students matriculating in summer 2023 (the first students to need access to the exams), this means early in the fall 2023 semester.
There are a variety of resources to assist advisors and students in learning more about the Georgia Legislative Requirements and we encourage you to include this information in your FASET orientation materials.

2023 Virtual Graduate School Showcase Hosted by Georgia Tech

The 2023 Virtual Graduate School Showcase Hosted by Georgia Tech is on October 20, and we need your help spreading the word to GT undergraduate, master's students, and alumni.
Now in its 3rd year, the Showcase is a collaborative event between Pre-Graduate and Pre-Professional (PGPP) Advising and the Office of Graduate Education.
We want as many Georgia Tech students to register as possible and are asking you to push our marketing assets through your various channels.
The Showcase is free to all prospective students anywhere in the world! Last year, we had 1100+ registrations from 57 countries and are aiming to exceed those numbers in 2023. This year, prospective students can meet with 106 recruiters from graduate programs at Georgia Tech as well as universities across the U.S. and abroad.
The Showcase is a flexible event, and prospective students can come when they can and leave when they want.
Registration is open September 27 – October 18. Help us spread the word far and wide across campus! We are providing you with marketing assets for multiple formats. Fall 2023 Commencement Changes
A direct result of growing enrollment is higher attendance at Commencement, leading to longer ceremonies to individually acknowledge all attending graduates. To avoid excessive ceremony lengths, Georgia Tech will host four Commencement ceremonies this fall.
Previous fall commencements experienced unfavorable weather conditions. Dividing the graduating class into four smaller ceremonies allows the event to fit inside McCamish Pavilion with five tickets per graduate for bachelor’s and master’s students. Ph.D. graduates will receive 10 guest tickets. The Fall 2023 ceremonies will take place inside McCamish Pavilion.

The Steven A. Denning Technology & Management (T&M) Program is a two-year course of study at Georgia Tech where undergraduate students learn together in an integrated program while preserving disciplinary depth in their major fields of study. The application for the Denning Technology & Management Program’s Class of 2026 will be open from Sunday, October 1 – Tuesday, October 31 @ 11:59pm. Pre-Professional Advising Job Opening: Academic Program Manager I (Pre-Health) (Hybrid)

Georgia Tech is hiring a new "Academic Program Manager I for Pre-Health" (i.e. Pre-Health Advisor), who will join the Academic Success and Advising team at our campus in Atlanta, Georgia. The Pre-Health Advisor will support students who plan to attend health professional school. This position provides highly specialized one-on-one advising, facilitates group learning, and supervises peer advisors or members of the Pre-Health (Student) Advisory Board. The Pre-Health Advisor reports to the Assistant Director for Pre-Health Advising and works closely with other Pre-Graduate and Pre-Professional advisors.
