St. Landry Parish Chapter | |

St. Landry Alumni Association GUNAA chapter enjoyed another successful month of membership enrollment, community service, GramFam chapter support and preparing to send students to Grambling with financial support from the St. Landry chapter. Community service efforts included donating a tailgating basket to the 15th Annual Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Kid's Benefit Banquet to support their fundraising goals and needs. The chapter was recognized as a 2024 In-Kind sponsor.
Other community service donations included a red beans & rice dry food items basket donation to the Opelousas Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated- Crimson & Cream Food Drive for Second Harvest Food Bank - Feeding South Louisiana. The St. Landry chapter was recognized publicly and through social media outlets.
An Alumni representative traveled to Alexandria, La to support the GUNAA- Mildred S. Jones Chapter Alexandria, La for their Soul Food Sunday Dinner Fundraiser.
Our final community service volunteering initiative closing out the month was volunteering at the Opelousas Love Heals Free Clinic supporting medical professionals as they provided free medical services with eye exams, prescription glasses, dental cleanings, fillings, extractions, medical physical exams, treatment of chronic illnesses and prescription medications. The chapter President, Florence Guidry-Milburn, volunteered as a licensed medical professional, while other alumni volunteered in areas of patient registration and patient navigation. It was a great feeling to be of service to our community.
As more work needs to be done, we are focusing on doubling active membership, so that we are aligned with and support the mission, goals and focus of the local and national chapter. .
