A Message from Our President

We congratulate our 1974 graduates on celebrating 50 years! We also congratulate the recent graduates and extend an invitation to ALL graduates to join GUNAA as we continue to work in service to our alma mater.

As summer approaches, I hope this message finds you well and filled with anticipation for the exciting events ahead. This season not only brings warmer days but also key moments for our GSU Alumni family.

Our alumni elections are just around the corner. This is a pivotal time for us to choose leaders for GUNAA and I urge you to participate actively by learning about the candidates and casting your vote. Your involvement is crucial in shaping the future of our alumni association.

Our National Convention, taking place from July 18th to July 21st will be a cornerstone event, bringing together Tigers from all over the nation. Highlights include:

  • Conducting GUNAA Business: Hearing from the members and making decisions on the direction of this organization.
  • Inspiring Keynotes: Hear from esteemed speakers who will motivate and energize us.
  • Workshops: Engage in sessions that foster professional growth and community connection.
  • Networking Opportunities: Connect with fellow alumni, rekindle old friendships, and build new ones.
  • Awards and Recognition: Honor the outstanding contribution of our members and chapters.

As we enjoy the summer, let’s reaffirm our commitment to the values of unity, respect, and service that define us as Grambling State University alumni. I look forward to seeing you at our events and continuing our journey of growth and achievement together.

Tell our Story...

Grambling State University Physical Education and Health Building (known as the Men's Memorial Gymnasium

May is Preservation Month. Preservation Month honors the people whose contributions, big and small, keep the work of historic preservation moving forward.

Preserving Black Excellence and the Legacies of Grambling State University. The historic buildings and landscape on the campus of Grambling State University hold a diverse and empowering collection of stories and artifacts that help tell the full American story and reflect the important legacy of the Black educational experience and the communities that surround and support the institution.

"Grambling College Goes Big-Time." On May 10, 1955, Grambling College (now known as Grambling State University) moved into a miraculous $800,000 physical education building, and from descriptions of the place, it’s really something. The building will seat 4,500 for basketball and 6,000 for other events when floor space can be utilized. Now envision the spacious lobby featuring Georgian marble, highly polished cedar, a white acoustical tile ceiling, and a terrazzo floor with alternating squares of grey and white. Pastel shades of blue, green, rust, and brown harmonize with blond furniture in classrooms, offices, and locker rooms. Facilities in the building include three basketball courts with six glass backboards, a portable boxing and wrestling ring, a corrective gymnasium for physically handicapped students, and showers and lockers for 420 men and 420 women students. Additional features include equipment storage rooms, varsity team locker rooms, visiting team locker rooms, and ticket windows. (Daily News, 5/10/1954)
