Gilroy Unified School District

Dear Gilroy community,

There has been so much to celebrate over the past month. We have received numerous awards and recognitions honoring our students, staff, and schools—an inspiring reflection of the dedication and excellence across our district. These accomplishments exemplify the hard work of the entire GUSD team, and I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all who will be honored at upcoming events. You make us incredibly proud.

Among these achievements:

  • Gilroy High School Exemplary Arts Education Award
  • GECA California Distinguished School Award
  • Tracy Yip, ACSA Region 8 Confidential Employee of the Year
  • Adrian Rodriguez Rodriguez, Mt. Madonna High, ACSA Region 8 Every Student Succeeding Award
  • Manuel Delgado, SCCOE Classified School Employee of the Year, Skilled Trades Worker

While we celebrate these successes, we are also focused on the important work ahead. As we prepare for year-end assessments and events, we are simultaneously developing our financial and academic plans for the upcoming school year.

I am proud to share that, despite ongoing fiscal uncertainty at the state level, GUSD will not be closing any schools or reducing staffing at this time. This stability is the result of careful, thoughtful financial stewardship. Our District has remained prudent in how we allocate resources, and for several consecutive years we have received a positive certification from the Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE). This certification affirms our ability to remain financially solvent over a three-year period—an increasingly challenging task given fluctuations in state funding and the reality that school districts often receive less funding than what is projected under Proposition 98.

We firmly believe that fiscal responsibility and educational excellence must go hand in hand. GUSD is committed to being a leader in providing a high-quality education while also recruiting and retaining outstanding educators and staff. We continue to collaborate with our bargaining partners to offer competitive salaries and benefits, while maintaining a balanced and sustainable budget.

The coming months will move quickly, as there is still much to accomplish before the end of the school year. We remain committed to providing engaging, meaningful learning experiences through the final day of school so that every student is prepared for success in the year ahead.

Finally, I want to express my deep gratitude to our certificated and classified staff, paraeducators, administrators, and district office team for their unwavering dedication. I also thank our parents and families for your continued partnership and trust. Together, we make it possible to support and inspire every student.

My best,

Anisha Munshi, Ed.D.

Negotiations Update

The Gilroy Unified School District and the Gilroy Teachers Association are currently bargaining changes to the salary, benefits and terms of the collective bargaining agreement.

GUSD is committed to provide our staff and community with regular updates about bargaining and critical information about the District’s budget.

This year, the District’s compensation proposal for 2025-26 has two parts: 1) a 3 percent bonus (off- schedule, and 2) a commitment to staff that the District will automatically increase the salary schedule by 3 percent ongoing effective July 1, 2026 if the enacted state budget includes the Settle Up Funds owed to the District. This proposal is in addition to the health benefits increase already agreed on by the District.

The District’s compensation proposal is structured in two parts because of the way the District was funded by the State this year. This year’s District budget is significantly impacted by the State failing to fund Gilroy, and other similar districts, with the money that is guaranteed under Proposition 98. GUSD is currently owed 8.5 million dollars by the state. We are hopeful that this money will come to the District in the next enacted state budget. The money owed to the District is called Settle Up Funds. Our proposal is structured so the 3 percent ongoing salary increase will be automatically triggered for July 1, 2026, if the Settle Up Funds are included in the Enacted State Budget. This increase will be in addition to what the bargaining partners negotiate for 2026-27.

GUSD celebrates two ACSA award winners

GUSD has two winners for the annual Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) Region 8 awards.

Congratulations to the District Office's own Tracy Yip, for being named the 2026 ACSA Region 8 Confidential Employee of the Year!

Tracy has served the District for well over three decades in a multitude of roles. We are so excited for her to be recognized amongst her peers in our region.

Congratulations to Mt. Madonna High School senior, Adrian Rodriguez Rodriguez, for being recognized as the 2026 ACSA Region 8 Every Student Succeeding Award winner!

Prior to enrolling at MMHS, Adrian was involved in a life-altering event that created both physical and emotional barriers that could have significantly disrupted his educational trajectory. Instead, Adrian made the intentional decision to re-engage with school and focus on his future.

His journey is a powerful example of resilience, determination, and the impact of a unified support system.
