Dear Gilroy community,
It’s hard to believe we’ve reached the final stretch of the school year. During my recent visits to classrooms, I’ve seen our high school students working hard as they prepare for AP exams and final assessments. At the same time, our younger students are getting ready for CAASPP testing and are eager to demonstrate all they have learned this year.
In just a few short weeks, students across all campuses will be promoted to the next grade level, and our seniors will walk across the stage to receive their diplomas. These milestones are deeply meaningful, and we are honored to celebrate these moments of pride and accomplishment with our families. Watching our students step forward with confidence as they embark on the next chapter of their journeys is truly inspiring.
Reflecting on this past year, I am filled with gratitude and pride for all we have accomplished together. GUSD serves nearly 10,200 students, from preschool through high school, including our youngest learners at just three years old. We remain committed to enhancing the classroom experience for every student. This year, we strengthened our early learning programs and expanded opportunities for high school students through partnerships with Gavilan College and San José State University. Building clear pathways to higher education—including dual enrollment opportunities—will continue to be a priority in the coming year.
I look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming year-end events. Thank you to our dedicated staff, supportive families, and engaged community for making GUSD a place where learners grow, leaders rise, and futures begin.
Warm regards,
Anisha Munshi, Ed.D.

Negotiations Update
GUSD has signed Tentative Agreements with two of our bargaining partners, CSEA and GFP. These agreements include an increase in medical benefits and a 3% off-schedule payment, with contingency language that the 3% would become part of the on-going salary schedule once the State pays Prop 98 funding in full. This year, the Governor’s budget withheld $5.9 billion from school districts across California. For GUSD, this amounts to approximately $8.5 million in funding that has not yet been released. We are hopeful that the final State Budget will restore this funding owed to our schools.
Prop. 98 is a constitutional amendment adopted by California voters in 1988 that establishes an annual minimum funding level for K-14 education each fiscal year — the Prop. 98 guarantee. Prop. 98 funding comes from a combination of state General Fund revenue and local property taxes. Prop. 98 spending supports K-12 schools (including transitional kindergarten), community colleges, county offices of education, the state preschool program, and state agencies that provide direct K-14 instructional programs.
We are continuing our bargaining sessions with GTA and hope to reach an agreement soon.

New Math Pathways for high school students
The GUSD Board of Education has approved a significant change to our high school math progression, beginning with the 2026-27 school year. We are transitioning from our current Integrated Math pathway to the traditional sequence of Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 through a year-by-year phase-in approach.
Starting next school year, incoming 9th graders will take Algebra 1 instead of Math 1. Students who would have taken Math 1+ will be directed to Math 2 with sophomore students.
This gradual transition ensures current high school students can complete their existing integrated math pathway while new students will move to the traditional sequence. This decision was supported by teacher surveys and CAASPP data analysis. Our math teachers believe this change will promote deeper understanding of mathematical concepts, strengthening student math achievement and college readiness.
