Gilroy Unified School District

Dear Gilroy Community Members and GUSD Supporters,

As we step into November, I am filled with pride and gratitude for the incredible work taking place across our district. Our campuses are alive with energy, collaboration, and creativity — a reflection of the dedication and passion of our staff, students, and families.

In our ongoing effort to expand opportunities for students, we recently celebrated the kickoff of a new dual enrollment agreement with Gavilan College, improving access for Mt. Madonna High School students to dually-enroll in college classes.

Last month, we also commemorated our agreement with San José State University, which guarantees admission for qualifying high school students — the result of two years of planning and collaboration. We are excited to continue building partnerships that open even more doors for our students. GUSD students may also enroll in Gavilan courses to pursue additional advanced studies when schedules allow.

Across our schools, it has been wonderful to see celebrations that showcase the diversity and creativity of our community — from Storybook Character Parades to beautiful Día de los Muertos altars. These events highlight the rich mosaic of cultures that make our district so special.

I am proud of our staff and leadership teams for their commitment to our students’ success. Together, we continue to move forward with purpose and heart.

Thank you for being active partners in building the strong, caring, and inclusive schools our students deserve.

Wishing you and your family a wonderful, safe, and joyful holiday season ahead.

With gratitude,

Anisha Munshi, Ed.D.

Takko-Machi Students visit Gilroy schools

On October 27 and 28, we hosted students and teachers from our Gilroy Sister City in Takko-Machi, Japan at Brownell, Solorsano and Christopher High Schools.

Together GUSD and Takko Machi students exchanged learning, participated in activities and developed relationships that stretch across the globe!

At Brownell Middle School, visiting students met Superintendent Munshi, and then toured the campus and visited two classrooms, where they shared aspects of Japanese culture with Brownell sixth and seventh graders.

At Solorsano, students practiced calligraphy and learned how to play Fukuwarai, a traditional Japanese game that brought lots of laughter!

Students then visited Christopher High School, where they toured the campus and visited several classes, including science, art, and English, and enjoyed a true American school experience by eating in the cafeteria.

Thank you Takko Machi friends for visiting us in the Garlic Capitol of the World! We were so happy to host you.
