Dear Gilroy Community Members and GUSD Supporters,
What a busy and exciting start to the school year!
It has been an absolute joy to welcome back students, staff, and families. Over the past three weeks, Iâve had the pleasure of visiting all of our schools, and Iâm thrilled to report that the year is off to a strong and smooth start. While weâve experienced the usual early traffic challenges, things are beginning to settle as families adjust to new routines.
One of the most heartwarming parts of this school year is welcoming our youngest learners to campus. Our Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program is now home to 350 enthusiastic 4-year-olds, across all seven of our elementary schools. Additionally, we have five preschool classrooms serving 3-year-old students. With nearly 600 students enrolled in Kindergarten, we are thrilled to see such strong early learning participation. These early years are critical for building a foundation for lifelong learning, and weâre honored to partner with families during this important stage.
At the other end of the educational journey, we are incredibly proud to share that Dr. T. J. Owens Gilroy Early College Academy (GECA) has been ranked #8 in California and #64 in the Nation by U.S. News and World Report. This recognition reflects the dedication and hard work of our students and staff, and we congratulate the entire GECA community on this well-earned honor. Weâre also excited to share that Mount Madonna High School has a brand-new home! The new campus will provide students with opportunities to grow, thrive, and explore pathways to college and career readiness in a modern and supportive environment.
While we have many reasons to celebrate, our greatest strength lies in our peopleâour committed educators, staff, and leaders who work every day to ensure student success and well-being. At each school site, teams are actively setting goals and implementing actions to ensure optimal outcomes for every student.
Lastly, I want to personally invite you to attend one of our upcoming Community Listening Sessions as we develop our Strategic Plan and Facilities Master Plan. These plans will guide our districtâs direction for years to come, and your voice matters.
- September 22 | 9:00 AM â 12:00 PM | Gilroy Elevate Learning Center (New MMHS Campus)
- September 23 | 5:00 â 8:00 PM | Gilroy High School
- October 4 | 9:00 AM â 12:00 PM | Christopher High School
We look forward to seeing you and hearing your ideas.
With anticipation and hope for a wonderful year ahead,

Anisha Munshi, Ed.D.
