Team Parent Meeting Updates
GV Crew held a parent information meeting on Thursday, March 18 at 7:30pm.

You can view the slideshow using the link below. There are also highlights here:
  • We have an amazing team of great kids and our largest team yet. But we also need to remember that we are a young team with only a handful of veteran rowers. Many are learning so it's important to be patient and also maintain a focused and attentive attitude. Yes, it's fun to be out on the water, but for safety reasons, everyone has to do their part. Rowers need to row without a lot of chatter, listen to directions from the coxswain and the coaches, and focus on your stroke. Coxswains follow directions from coaches and also direct rowers and steer the boat. Coaches provide instruction and guidance on all things crew.
  • Regattas - It is looking more likely that regattas will take place in some format, though they may not allow spectators. It is our goal to get every student the opportunity to compete in a regatta. One exception: 8th graders are "learn-to-row" only and are not eligible to compete. (Scroll down for tentative regatta dates)
  • Uniforms - we will have uniforms ready for purchase before the first regatta. Scroll down for more details on uniforms and please complete the SURVEY.
  • Fundraisers - We will be scheduling a few car washes and family restaurant nights as smaller fundraisers. We are also looking for anyone who has a connection to a local car dealer who might be willing to donate a functioning used car for a car raffle.
  • Boathouse - As we have moved to a boathouse owned by the Upper Merion school district, it's important to remember that we are sharing the space and to be considerate of other rowers. It is a complicated relationship that allows us to use their boathouse and we want to always remain on good terms with those we encounter at the boathouse.
  • Swim test - For those who still need to take the swim test, we will have one more test scheduled soon.

UNIFORMS

CARPOOL INFO
GV Crew staff is NOT arranging carpools for you. We are providing this list to make it easier for you to contact others to pair up and form your own carpool. If you have trouble finding a carpool, please email me (Robin) at gvcrewm@gmail.com and I can put out a remind and help if needed.

Use THIS LINK to get to the EDITABLE Google Spreadsheet.
Read and follow the directions carefully.

*This list was created using the information provided by GVCO from current registrations as of Wednesday, 2/17. If you don't see your name on the list and you'd like to participate, I can add you (just let me know) or you can add yourself to the spreadsheet in the extra blank areas.

  • There is no experience necessary for you to row with us!
  • Boys & Girls Grades 8-12. Note: 8th graders can train and practice, but are not eligible to compete in the regattas.
  • There is NO TRANSPORTATION provided to practices or to regattas in Philly, NJ and DEL. There is a voluntary and optional parent-led carpool for those that want to participate.
  • PLEASE NOTE:  This is a competitive rowing team, we need your full commitment to all practices and regattas. We need the whole team at every practice to ensure we can get on the water ever day the weather conditions allow.
  • Registration fees cover many costs including boathouse rental, boat purchases and maintenance, insurance, and coaches salaries. We strive to fundraise and keep our fees low. We are proud to say that our fees remain lower than other comparable programs.

GVCO Project Update
Back in Action!

About one year ago, February/March 2020, we began the site work at the Bacton Hill site of our new GVCO Community Center. The timing of the start to the pandemic last year couldn’t have been more detrimental to the project. Like most of the world, GVCO had to shut down the project just as it had started. There are a host of things that need to “fall into place” in order to restart - from re-pricing to re-awarding, to reengaging the local and county authorities. And of course the weather. It appears that all of this is completed (including the winter months) and the community will see some progress in the coming weeks.
