Brad's Bits

The Chamber at Work

As we begin the new year, several issues have come to the forefront which the Chamber has been working on.

  • Colossal Cave Road Improvements: RTA’s Board of Directors has taken the recommendations for projects to be funded by RTA Next from the Citizen Advisory Committee and Technical Management Committee into consideration. One of the major projects is the improvement of Colossal Cave Road from I-10 to Camino Loma Alta. The Chamber provided letters of support of the project to the Board as well as the Pima County Board of Supervisors. Brad Anderson provided comments to the RTA Board during their meeting on January 25th.
  • Lukeville Port of Entry Closing: GVACC signed onto a letter with the other Southern Arizona Chambers to the US Department of Homeland Security conveying the need to reopen the port.
  • Reauthorization of the Arizona Commerce Authority: GVACC in coordination with other Chambers signed a letter addressed to the Arizona State Legislature to support the reauthorization of the Arizona Commerce Authority
  • US Customs and Border Protection Hiring and Retention Act: GVACC went on record to support Congressman Juan Ciscomani’s bill to provide U S Customs and Border Protection with adequate flexibility in its employment authorities.
  • Opposition to City of Tucson Prevailing Wage Ordinance: GVACC sent a letter to Mayor Romero expressing the Chamber’s concerns regarding the establishment of prevailing wage requirements for certain Public Works contracts. It is the Chamber’s opinion that this ordinance has the potential to escalate the costs which could hinder the growth of local businesses. Foregoing formal input from the business community, the City Council approved the ordinance.

Leap Into Heart Health This Leap Year with Northwest Healthcare

TUCSON, AZ (Jan. 15, 2024) – It’s a leap year, and that means we all can look forward to an extra day in February – an extra day to enjoy life, be well, and pursue the things that make us happy. And, while an extra day is nice, what if you could add more years to your life?

Caring for your heart is one of the best ways to increase longevity. Heart disease is the number one cause of death in the United States, responsible for one in five adult deaths in the U.S each year.
