GVBL will have a pause in their schedule as Pennsylvania mandated a shut down of all recreational youth sports through the end of the year as of Saturday, December 12th. Prior to the stoppage though, GVBL saw some pretty good contests in several different divisions as we crossed into mid-season.
Week 5 Recap
Girls 5th/6th:
While the Sky was idle this week and remained undefeated at 5-0 atop the division standings, the Girls 5th/6th division had the GVBL game of the week! The Liberty moved into sole possession of 2nd place as they just got by the Mystics in a down-to-the-wire 21-20 win. In the other divisional game, the Fever got by the Dream as they moved into 3rd place.
Boys 5th/6th:
The Celtics handed the Bulls their first loss of the season 30-23 on Thursday, but the Bulls bounced back on Friday to beat the Raptors 40-27. The Celtics, Bulls and Magic all remain at the top of the division with one loss a piece. The Hornets had an impressive 35-17 win over the Bucks to remain one game back in the loss column of the divisional leaders. Each team in the division has at least one win thus far, as all continue to remain in the hunt moving into the second half of the season schedule.
Boys HS:
The high school boys got off to the quick start to the season and both the Royal and Orange teams showed early season success. Orange is 4-0, while Royal also has an unblemished record at 3-0. Green scored a division high 71 points but suffered their second loss of the season dropping them back to 3rd place. Maroon had a good win over Kelly 52-34, to stay one game back in the loss column tied with Black in 2nd place. Also tied in 2nd place is Purple, who won two games this week, including a double overtime thriller over Carolina 49-47.
Girls 3rd/4th:
In the Girls 3/4 division, the Wildcats pulled off an upset by beating the previously unbeaten Bulldogs 22-16. They continued their mid-season success by also out-dueling the Vols 17-10 for their second win of the week, moving them into a tie for 2nd place in the division. The Gators, with a 32-10 win over the Tigers, remain tied at the top of the division with the Bulldogs, each with just one loss. The Vols kept pace in the division with a strong defensive performance in an 18-10 win over the Razorbacks.
Boys 3rd/4th:
In the Boys 3rd/4th division, the Hawkeyes moved into sole possession of 1st place, as the Lions pulled off the upset of the week, upending the Wolverines 30-12.
GVBL will begin working out the schedule for the new year with the hope that we will be restarting the season shortly after we turn the page on the calendar to the 2021 new year.
Enjoy the holiday season!
