GVBL Rec League News

It's official...everyone brought their A game for our week 5 games this past weekend! The Boys 5th/6th Knicks were able to secure two wins this past weekend, defeating both the Raptors and the Hornets. Their hard work this weekend earned them a top spot in the standings with an undefeated 4-0 record.

The Boys 5th/6th Cavs may not have won two games this weekend, however; they are also holding onto a 4-0 record and putting some extra pressure on the Knicks to keep up their streak. As we work our way towards the midway part of the season, the Girls 3rd/4th grade division is beginning to take shape, as to who are the teams rising to the top of the standings. The Pacer ETF Gators notched another win to help them keep pace in the division. Julieann Bradbard scored 12 points and Caroline Wirt scored 6 points, to lead the Gators over the Ostroff Godshall Wildcats.

The Tigers, Bulldogs and Berkshire Asset Management Sooners are also atop the standings in the early part of the season. In our Boys 3rd/4th division, the Hawkeyes and the Cornhuskers are also tied with a 3-0 record. Lots of tough competition going on in GVBL; we love to see all the commitment and intensity from each division!

Tournament Team News

It was a great opening ICBA weekend for the D2 29ers. The team won their first game against WRA on Friday, 56-48.  Dylan Gustafson had a breakout performance, leading the team with 21 points, and Blake Sacchetta scored his first points of the ICBA season. On Saturday, the 29ers took on Whitemarsh. The game was intense and the 29ers walked away with a 45-34 victory.  Tyler Dixon scored his first buckets as a 29er and James McCollum led scoring with 20 points. The entire team contributed with some great assists to our post players and tough defense. The 29ers take an early first place lead in the division and look forward to a big match up at Penn Valley on Thursday. Go 29ers!

The Boys 6th grade team is 2-0 in ICBA.

GVBL's 4th Grade Tournament Team had 2 separate teams signed up for this weekend's Holiday Jam at Competitive Edge. Both teams battled hard. Team 2 led off the tournament with a heartbreaking overtime loss to the Philadelphia Warriors. Then both teams saw afternoon action with Team 1 knocking off the Philadelphia Warriors and Team 2 falling to Hood Enriched. Team 2 finished the day with a loss to Shoot Hoops.

Sunday morning pitted the two GVBL teams against each other. This game came down to the wire with Team 1 winning as Team 2 had the ball rim out on a buzzer beating shot and moving on to the second round.

Unfortunately, Team 1 lost to the eventual tournament champion Hood Enriched. This was the first tournament action for the 4th Grade Tournament Team and they certainly showed why they belong on the Tournament team.

Great Valley High School Basketball

Girls High School Basketball

The week started off with an away game at Kennett. The JV players played well and executed their offense very well winning their game by 37 points. Varsity played a close game against Kennett and unfortunately lost with a final score of GV 26: Kennett 29. On Thursday we held our second home game of the season against West Chester East and had phenomenal performances by both JV and Varsity. The varsity game ended 50-35 and JV 48-25. We also held our first Chickie’s and Pete’s sponsored buckets for buckets half time shootout competition and plan to have more. This upcoming week on Tuesday 12/19 the girls will host another home game against Academy Park High School.

Thank you

THANK YOU TO OUR LOCAL CORPORATE & BUSINESS SPONSORS OF OUR 2022-2023 GVBL WINTER LEAGUE

Once again, we have had tremendous local support for what we are trying to accomplish with our GVBL winter rec league. Without this assistance, there would be a financial shortfall for equipment, administration and facilities rental. GVBL would like to thank all those who have stepped up to support GVBL. In addition, as always please try and support these local businesses throughout the year, shopping and doing business right here at home.
