GVBL Junior Hoopsters

JR HOOPSTERS IS LESS THAN A MONTH AWAY FROM TIPPING OFF!

Beginning January 6th, there will be 75 Kindergarten & Pre-K Jr Hoopsters starting their basketball careers! Our Jr Hoopsters program is once again sold out. We appreciate the patience from all those families and kids who are chomping at the bit to get the season started! There will be 3 sessions each Saturday afternoon for 6 weeks. All Jr Hoopsters sessions will be held at the new GVCO Community Center.

GVBL Rec League News

Despite the rainy weekend, we still had some great games to watch. The Boys 7/8 Warriors, the Boys 5/6 Cavs, and the Boys 3/4 Cornhuskers all brought their A game with each team scoring 51 points, the highest scores of the weekend! The Lakers were not far behind with 46 points against the Kings, securing a 13 point win.

We continue to see tremendous improvement in each division; all of the teams are starting to fall into their own grooves and are clearly discovering their team chemistry. The coaches are starting to show off their play making abilities and it is definitely shining through in the scores. We can't wait to see more picks and new plays next week!

Tournament Team News

Hive

The Hive was swarming the “Queen of the Court” tournament this weekend! Saturday night in Prime time, on the Main Court at Competitive Edge the girls beat a guest player filled team from MLGBA 29-18. The contest featured the Hive’s stifling defense led by Callie Cole locking up one of the areas best offensive players. Ceci Chain paced the offense with 13 points, shooting 3-4 from downtown. The second Queen of the Court tournament game saw a close game at halftime turn into a 36-12 victory. The girls played tough defense and were led on both ends by Hailey Shaughnessy, Sadie Tengwall and Katelyn Diamond

The Malvern League contest of the weekend featured a tough all star team from Delco, with several of the areas top AAU players. The Malvern game went in favor of “Delco’s Finest” but there was a lot of good ball movement and the girls are working hard learning the new offense and primary break. Overall it was a very successful weekend for the girls!

This winter The Hive will compete in Division 1 of the ICBA league (the most competitive division of school district based basketball in PA) and will play in the Malvern League (Girls 7-8). This should be an exciting season! Up next weekend for the hive, 2 more ICBA tournament games and a tough Malvern Contest v. The Media Mustangs.

29ers

The 29ers D2 team tipped off the season with the King of the Court tournament. Over the past two weekends, the team played four games and earned a ticket to State Championships in March 2024, following a hard-fought, down to the wire 31-30 loss to D1 Roslyn in the championship game. The coaches are so incredibly proud of every single player for their contribution to the team's success this weekend.  Extra shout outs to James McCollum and Cooper Willey for sparking a run against Pennsbury in a win on Saturday, and to Noah Gardner and Matthew Kasser for leading the team against Roslyn on Sunday. Next up: ICBA league play begins with a home game against WRA on Friday.

Raptors

Congratulations to the 6th grade boys Great Valley Raptors tournament team!! They went 5-0 and won the Twin Valley Rock the Bells tournament. Great team effort with high intensity defense and great ball movement all weekend. It was even sweeter with beating 3 teams that they lost to last year!

The JV team kicked off their 2023-2024 season with a loss to a strong Phoenixville team on Tuesday night, but then rebounded in their next game against WC East. THANK YOU TO OUR LOCAL CORPORATE & BUSINESS SPONSORS OF OUR 2022-2023 GVBL WINTER LEAGUE

Once again, we have had tremendous local support for what we are trying to accomplish with our GVBL winter rec league. Without this assistance, there would be a financial shortfall for equipment, administration and facilities rental. GVBL would like to thank all those who have stepped up to support GVBL. In addition, as always please try and support these local businesses throughout the year, shopping and doing business right here at home.
