The next game featured the final championship matchup of the 2022 GVBL Winter League season, Gators vs. Wildcats. The Gators had won their previous matchup to force a final game. The Storm traveled up to State College for the Pennsylvania State Championships this past weekend. In game action, the Storm had an impressive win over Karns City where all players contributed to a sizable victory. Throughout the weekend, Kate Weikert and Lauren Chain led the team in minutes and points. More important was the team bonding that went on throughout, highlighted by a tour of the Bryce Jordan Arena. Storm player, Lily Lexer, has a cousin that plays for the Penn State Lady Lions. Makenna Marisa is the point guard for PSU and was 2nd in the Big 10 in scoring and 7th in the nation in scoring. More impressive was that she cheered on the Storm throughout the weekend and was incredibly accommodating of the team showing them the Lady Lions locker room and taking the team on the court. It was a fantastic weekend for the team, who now will focus on the ICBA championship game against Deep Run on Saturday.

The Hive competed this weekend in the Gold Division of the 5th Grade Girls State Championship!
We finished 1 spot out of the final 4 in pool play based on a tiebreaker of point differential.

The weekend featured an hard fought 11 point victory over great team from the Pittsburgh area - Chartiers Valley. In our second game the girls had a halftime lead over the #2 ranked team in the state only to succumb to their height down the stretch. The Hive fought hard the rest of the weekend but fell to the last two teams in heartbreaking fashion by 1 point in each contest to two very good teams.
All and all the girls held their own with the best teams in Pennsylvania. The coaches and parents are proud of their accomplishments this season.

The competition was tough, but they left with win and more importantly an incredible set of memories.

The Barrow Family - Greg, Sandi, Jack, & Ryan
|
|
Greg & Sandi both grew up in the area. Sandi is a proud GV alum. Greg owns an insurance agency, and Sandi is most proud of being a mom.
They first heard of GVCO when a little girl came to Jack’s preschool class with her Junior Hoopsters trophy. They knew immediately they had to get the boys involved, and it was love at first sight. The GVBL program was amazing & still is impressive today. Both boys played through high school. Ryan is still playing in the High School division.
In 2010 when GVCO started a youth football program with the Junior Patriots, Sandi & Greg knew their boys, 5 & 7 at the time, would be thrilled to jump on board. It was the best seven seasons ever with GVFL. Greg coached, and Sandi was a GVFL Board Member and League Representative for four seasons.
Not only playing the games & having fun over the years, but it is the life-long friends we have all made that are truly the magic of GVCO. It was essential to pass this spirit on to younger families by supporting GVCO and the new center.
We cannot wait to see all of the happy faces, young and old, at the new GVCO center.
