Grades 1-8 News
Another set of GVBL Rec League games were played this past weekend at Grand Slam and the Phelps School. Follow along on the GVBL app as we move through the season.
Highlights:
- The Lynx team remains undefeated after their dominating win on Saturday. Eliza Flaherty dropped a clutch three pointer late in the first half to stop a Mercury run.
- This past Saturday, Sarah Culbertson had an amazing game all around with 6 points/6 rbd/3 steal/4 assist, helping to push the Stars record to 2-2 in their victory over the Sparks.
SEND US GVBL PICTURES! We would like to include pictures from each division in our messaging. If you can capture some of the outstanding action from your team's game, we would be glad to highlight it in our messaging. Please send them to basketball@gvco.org.

Storm
The Storm played its third pool play game in the ICBA King of the Court tourney on Saturday night against MARA. Led by suffocating defense and an explosive offense, the team was up at the half by a score of 31-6 and closed out the game with a 49-17 victory. The team finished 2-1 in the tournament, missing out barely on the championship contest. On Sunday, the team played in the CES winter league against an impressive Delco Select team, falling 52-33. 29ers
Fantastic weekend for the 29ers! Defense led the way - the entire team's defensive effort against MARA and Montgomery led the way to winning the King of the Court tournament and qualifying for the state championship in March! Shoutout to Noah Gardner and Cooper Willey for leading the offense this weekend! In Malvern League play, Robby Dallas was a star with a three, handling the ball, and some good defense in a hard fought 4-point loss. Next up: ICBA league play kicks off on December 16 and Malvern League continues on December 17. Let's go 29ers!

The girls picked up another hard fought victory on Thursday night against Council Rock North, 38-24, to run their record to 4-0 to start the season. This week the team has a big Ches-Mont American home game on Tuesday against Kennett, and then a road contest at Sun Valley on Thursday. JV-5:30, Varsity-6:45.

WHERE WE PLAY THE BASKETBALL
The biggest challenge for GVBL is finding and scheduling the gym space for the 80+ teams during the winter season. There just isn't enough available court space within our district. GVCO is working towards a solution - the new GVCO Community Center project on Bacton Hill Rd.
In the meantime, we are renting the court space from some of our "community partners". Please remember to treat all of these facilities with respect while visiting for practices and games. The Phelps School, Grand Slam and the GVSD have been nice enough to allow us to use their buildings, so please treat this usage properly as we cannot afford to lose our privileges at any of these facilities

7 student volunteers along with a number of the Caring Hands advisory board got together with the Desmond Saturday morning to wrap gifts for our Good Neighbor initiative. This is a great cause that GVCO Caring Hands has been doing for a good number of years. We provide donated gifts to 300-400 seniors/older adults involved at the Phoenixville Senior Center, Surrey Services for Seniors in Devon and the Great Valley Senior community. All of these gifts are wrapped and given out at each of their Senior Luncheons held during December.
Caring Hands is a student-led volunteer group that supports the community through various activities. Students in grades 7-12 and their parents can sign up for the Constant Contact Caring Hands News distribution list for the 2022-23 school year. More upcoming event information can be found on Caring Hands News & Updates

Siddhant Suresh Scholarship Fund
|
|
|
This scholarship fund was created to honor the memory of Siddhant Suresh, a wonderful son and brother, beloved community member and an outstanding student who loved basketball and chess. Siddhant was a GVBL tournament team and recreation league player, who enjoyed the sport and played it with great team spirit and enthusiasm.
|
|
As a selfless player on the basketball court, and a true, caring friend off the court, Siddhant epitomizes the values on which our Great Valley Community organization is built…family, friends and community.
This scholarship is designed to help others who may need assistance, giving them the opportunity to participate in GVCO programming.
Participants must reside within Great Valley School District to be eligible for the scholarship funds.
