It's been quite the effort, by a great number of people to get our 2022-2023 winter season started, but there were a lot of balls dribbling and going into the hoop this past weekend. It was great to see a bunch of kids playing for the first time and a whole lot of "seasoned veterans" returning to GVBL. Continue to be patient with the start-up as there are always a few "bumps", but historically everything begins to settle in as we move into the season. We typically start the league slightly earlier than most leagues, which always creates challenges as the Thanksgiving holiday falls very shortly after we just start-up.
Remember that the volunteer coaches are simply moms and dads helping coordinate individual teams, who are communicating with another group of volunteer coordinators, who also are moms and dads here in the community. Those coordinators are getting their info from another set of volunteers who coordinate the GVBL league. So everybody is your neighbor. Everyone is after the same thing, to create a great experience for our district's kids to learn to play basketball, in a competitive and fun environment.
Once again, please use the basketball section of our www.gvco.org website; sign up for the GVBL app and thoroughly read our weekly Around The Rim Constant Contact messaging to get a complete update about basketball in Great Valley. If all else fails and you still have a question, please don't hesitate to send an email to basketball@gvco.org and we will try and get back to you as possible.
WHERE WE PLAY THE BASKETBALL
Obviously the biggest challenge for GVBL is finding the gym space, and allocating that gym space, for the 80+ teams we will have playing this winter season. There just isn't enough available court space within our district. Obviously GVCO is addressing that issue with the new GVCO Community Center project on Bacton Hill Rd - much more to come about this as we move through the season!. In the meantime, we are renting the court space from some of our "community partners". Please remember to treat all of these facilities with respect while visiting for practices and games. The Phelps School, Grand Slam and the GVSD have been nice enough to allow us to use their buildings, so please treat this usage properly as we cannot afford to lose our privileges at any of these facilities
