It's been a little over 6 months since we opened the new GVCO Community Center on Bacton Hill Rd. This wonderful community asset has already begun to have a significant impact on our Great Valley Community and the surrounding region. We continue to offer the same outstanding youth sports programming we have always provided the community, but now at a beautiful new complex.
A significant change has come in the form of community and adult programming. There were things that we weren't able to offer in the past due to a lack of facilities - like hosting a Red Cross blood drive, an e-recycling event or a major fundraising event, all which were very successfully executed at the new center.
Adult sports programming like badminton, a men's basketball league, along with Medicare classes for older adults, all occurred for the first time this spring. Earlier in the year, our Crew program brought in some ergs and held winter training sessions. Uptown AAU Basketball was a huge success, hosting its programming out of the GVCO Community Center. We hosted a 3-day prom closet and over 170 dresses were given out to high school students to use for this year's prom. Plus we held our first regional youth basketball tournament over a 4-day weekend in March.
With our eye on the next 3 to 9 months, we are exploring a number of new programs to better help families here in the district. Continuing to build new relationships with like-minded partners will be one of the ways that we accomplish our goal. For example, GVCO will host a English Language Learners program for Hispanic adults in association with Back To Basics Learning, an expert in this field. Regional school chapters of Best Buddies International will have several events at GVCO. We've organized a GV flag football program for girls since the 2028 Olympics will have women's flag football - this type of programming is popping up all over southeastern Pennsylvania.
And as always, looking for ideas and thoughts from the community. If you'd like us to explore any good idea, just send a note to community@gvco.org!
