Students, faculty and staff of the George Washington University gathered to welcome new Provost M. Brian Blake with a reception in mid-November, enjoying snacks and brief remarks from Dr. Blake and from GW President Thomas J. LeBlanc.
“We are very fortunate to have Dr. Blake joining our community,” Dr. LeBlanc said. “He has a record of transformative academic leadership, and I have no doubt he will also be a tireless advocate for our undergraduate and graduate students and our faculty across all disciplines.”

Celebrating Dr. Hooshangi's Decade of Service as IIST Program Director

Dr. Sara Hooshangi has proven herself a rising star and valuable leader since joining the College in 2010 as the inaugural director of the Integrated Information, Science and Technology (IIST) bachelor’s degree completion program. Many milestones later the fledgling program has grown and morphed into a unique, well-established program, producing graduates who are prepared for a variety of careers in the rapidly changing technology world.
“All of us at CPS extend our heartfelt thanks to Sara for her extraordinary decade of service to the College. She grew a successful interdisciplinary program while showing a deep dedication to teaching excellence and student support,” said Christopher J. Deering, interim dean for the College of Professional Studies. “She will be nearly impossible to replace and we all wish her the very best of luck as she embarks on this next stage in her career.”

Program Director Jane Thorpe Named Milken Institute School of Public Health's Senior Associate Dean
Jane Hyatt Thorpe, JD, program director of the Healthcare Corporate Compliance Program (HCC), has been named senior associate dean for academic, student and faculty affairs in GW’s Milken Institute School of Public Health (Milken Institute SPH). In her new role, Thorpe will oversee the school’s educational mission, and provide leadership and support to all faculty and students.

Staff Member Awarded Knapp Fellowship: Project 'Familia United' Aims to Reunite Families
|
Yesenia Grajeda Yepez was inspired to develop a research project to assist Central American immigrant families in Yuma County, Arizona with family tracing and reunification.
Yepez, a staff member working in the CPS Dean’s Office, combined her graduate studies in Latin American and Hemispheric Studies with knowledge of migration to develop a private app to assist families in finding each other. She was awarded the 2019-2020 Knapp Fellowship to implement her project.
