Dear Colleagues,
The Global Wildlife Program (GWP) has two new publications that address critical issues we are working to address: effective criminal justice response to the illegal wildlife trade, and providing economic opportunities for local communities living closest to wildlife. Tools and Resources to Combat Illegal Wildlife Trade is a joint report with the International Consortium on Combating Wildlife Crime (ICCWC), and Supporting Sustainable Livelihoods Through Wildlife Tourism was developed jointly with the World Bank Group’s Finance, Competitiveness & Innovations Global Practice.
 
We also highlight products from our annual conference in October 2017 co-hosted with the Government of India and UNDP, and the study tour to Sri Lanka on electric fences as a tool to mitigate human-elephant conflict (read the blog: Good fences made good neighbors).
 
Make sure to check out the GWP program video with stunning footage of wildlife and communities to raise awareness about the key pillars of GWP and making a call for action to the public. Please share the video with your colleagues, friends and family!
 
There is still much to achieve before we can avert the illegal wildlife trade crisis but we have an ambitious agenda for the remainder of 2018 and look forward to collaborating with our partners to promote wildlife conservation and local development.

Through this "story map" you can watch videos, hear audio, see presentations, step into maps, and read more about this GWP-organized study tour from the eyes of the participants. This delegation of 17 government representatives from 13 countries traveled to the the village of Kapugama to learn how to reduce human-elephant conflict.

Our latest video showcases how the GWP is responding to the growing crisis of illegal wildlife crime and the threat to endangered species through strengthening law enforcement, creating innovation solutions with partners, and working hand-in-hand with communities.
Recent GWP Resources
This publication is the product of a working group recommendation from our 2016 conference in Hanoi on reducing illegal wildlife trafficking. Additionally, we have put together a subject matter database available on request that includes names of experts and organizations you can contact for law enforcement assistance.
Developed by the GWP and the World Bank Group, this report showcases sustainable wildlife tourism models that can be applied to developing countries, and offers solutions and case studies to bring insight into this sector as a mechanism for inclusive poverty reduction and global conservation.
