After Seven Years and $4.4M Awarded to Members,
GaHIN Wraps Up Intermediary Program
In 2015, GaHIN received a federal grant to accelerate technology adoption and the electronic exchange of health information. Since that time, GaHIN's Intermediary Program has disbursed $4,460,000 to 446 providers in Georgia.

GaHIN awarded a total of $330,000 to members in 2021, helping to connect 33 hospitals and providers to the GaHIN network. GaHIN members receiving awards included Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Georgia Regional Academic Community Health Information Exchange (GRAChIE), HealtheConnection, HealtHIE Georgia, HI-BRIDGE HIE and WellStar.

Intermediaries are hospital-based and regional HIEs that have direct technical interoperable connections to GaHIN. The program is funded by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, with the Georgia Department of Community Health passing the funds through to GaHIN to develop and execute the program.

“We are very pleased to help ensure providers have comprehensive patient data at the point of care to improve care quality and reduce costs," said Denise Hines, Executive Director of GaHIN. “By connecting to GaHIN, providers can access data from Georgia government agencies and providers across the state, as well as adjoining states."

October Update on New Tech 21 Project
We have made very encouraging progress this week on the go-live of GaHIN’s new query-based exchange platform, GeorgiaConnX. The GaHIN and Velatura implementation teams are working diligently with members to complete connections to the platform and to onboard members to services, including the ability to query and retrieve documents.

HI-BRIDGE HIE and Wellstar Health System are currently live on GeorgiaConnX, and we expect Children's Healthcare of Atlanta to quickly join them on the platform. Several other members are slated for next week.

Our members have been responsive and helpful as we work through the needed technical upgrades and changes to enable connections. We truly appreciate their support and cooperation.

Several members have been sending demographic data to the GaHIN platform; many thanks to:
  • Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta
  • Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Development Disabilities
  • Grady Health System
  • Harbin Clinic
  • HealtHIE Georgia
  • Wellstar Health System
