GaHIN Bringing New Lab Results
Delivery Service to Georgia Providers
GaHIN will soon roll out the GaHIN Lab Results Delivery Service, which will give participating GaHIN members electronic access to patient lab results. Although many providers who order lab tests receive the results electronically, there still are a number of providers who receive the results by fax, CD or mail.

With GaHIN, a copy of these results will also be available to other providers that the patient may see. Additionally, this service lays the groundwork for GaHIN to begin supporting analytics such as population health, quality measurement and longitudinal studies.

"Access to lab results allows for improved clinical decision support, trending analyses and population health management," said Pam Matthews, Executive Operating Officer of GaHIN. "Having timely access to these reports, which will be in a standard format, is essential to delivering efficient and effective patient care. The ability to query lab results allows providers to reduce duplicate testing, lower costs, improve data access at the point of care and improve clinical decision-making."

In order to maximize the benefit of the lab test reporting and to ensure complete state coverage, GaHIN will seek consent from members to allow the labs to send a copy of the test results to GaHIN. Please stay tuned as we begin outreach in conjunction with account management staff from the lab companies.
