Work for Change
2012 Year in Review
Women's Centre women worked incredibly hard over the past year advocating for women's rights in our region. A project worth highlighting was the creation of a background paper outlining policy recommendations in eight key areas to address women's poverty. Developed through a collaborative process, this paper was sent to thirty policy makers and followed-up by meetings with thirteen Calgary members of the legislative assembly, three ministers and two associate ministers.

Thank-you to everyone who contributed to our work for change initiatives! Click here to learn more about our work with women and poverty and to find out about some of the policy changes we helped influence last year.

Belly Dancing: Perfection in Imperfection
According to Jaime Emond, volunteer workshop faciltator at the Women's Centre, belly dancing is a great way to bring people together and break down barriers in how we view our bodies.

"It is an unfortunate fact that the world we live in often makes women feel as if they are in competition with each other. This really comes into play with physical appearance as we are constantly bombarded with images of unrealistic body types," says Jaime. Click here to read more.
